    No Fjr For Me

Well, I have both a 2006 FJR and a 2005 ST 1300. They are both great bikes but I like the FJR better. It feels more sporty and rides a tad cooler. The Honda is very smooth though. I have always felt that I will get a "major performance award" on the Honda first because the feedback to the...

    Best Pants?

I believe there are a number of good choices out there. But for me, it is the 'stich. I have both the regular Darien and the Darien AD1. They have both worked remarkably. I only got the AD1s to have something to wear when my regular pair were getting fixed and the AD!s were a prototype that...

    FJR test ride

Don't you love it when you make a choice and it turns out to be one as great as the FJR? Congrats on choosing such a great ride. I rarely see more than 42mpg but have gotten as high as 50. Don't know how some of you guys do it. Then again, I have a substantial load and frontal area challenge...

    Lost front fender and…

Just another vote for blue Loctite! It ensures/insures many fasteners on my Feej. I also have never heard of "losing" a front fender on an FJR. Maybe someone "borrowed" it? As for those plastic screws on the windshield...in 2006, when my FJR was just a couple of months old, it was caught in...

    Nice things.... DOH!

Welcome to the not-so-exclusive club. My tipover switch has been sucessfully tested. Recently, after 38,000 scuff-free miles on my 2006, I dropped it negotiatiing an uphill right hander from a standstill onto a major road. Best I can figure is my throttle grip slipped in my new gloves and the...

    Givi box airborne at 80mph!

Just fwiw, I have a V46 on a 2006 since new. After 38,000 miles of daily bumping (maybe 10 miles withoutthe box on) it has never given me any cause to worry. It seems to pound down the rubber bumpers after time and develops some play, but always seems secure. Since it is always on though...

Source for Steering Stem Spanner Wrench?

Don't give up on Just Roy. The "socket" he made works very well. At least the one I have from him does. I hope he sees this thread and gets back to you. mr.paul

Seen a scooter do EVERYTHING wrong

Isn't it funny how people blow-off safety because it is "only a scooter"? But then again, so many people just don't respect physics. Recently in this state, a 60-year-old died in a church parking lot. He was riding a scooter, and with no safety gear whatsoever, lost control and died of a head...

    Alaska trip report.

You don't need to take out them foriegn deer when you can take them closer to home... Sorry to hear of your trip ender. It is all too fammiliar around here. I am just a few minutes away from you and see those freaking rats often. Just swerved around one yesterday morning near Castle Rock...

    PR2's with the "B" rating ?

Wow, the different experiances from tires is just endlessly amazing. I know some hated the origiinal Metz Z6's, but I ran 3 sets with great (for me) performance and mileage. An average of 9k per set is good in my opinion and they handled sporty through most of thier life. I then tried the...

    grip puppies

I'd like to know how these work with the factory heated grips. Does the heat still get through as well? mr.paul from Minnesota

    Fork oil change??

my 2 cents. Last year in the spring, the Radman helped me flush and change my fork oil with about 25,000 miles on it (yeah, he chewed me out). The original oil was black and thin. After the change (to Amsoil #10) things felt smoother and more sure-footed. Noticeable. Rad likes to hose them...

    non-bungee cargo net

+1 on Aerostich. If they don't have a packing option you like, get the food wrap. I like bungee nets so much I carry 4 of them. Actually, that started when I was on a trip on my Vmax and my overload started shifting. I stretched nets over everything and it held it in place for 1,400 miles...

    Parenting Isn't For Cowards

Just saw this thread for the first time. Prayers and juju sent your family and Emily's way. In a former job, I worked at an adolescent mental health facility. It was residential with an average stay of 18 months. These were all kids that had been through at least a few different treatments...

    Alaskan Adventure

I'll add mine in too. Great ride report! A lot of fun to read. How cool you have a girl that appreciated the spontaneous trip planning. Now if I could just get my sorry ass out there and do it too......hope this inspires me... mr.paul

Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive in One Day. Realistic? Stupid?

Last year I did the lower half of the Parkway in a day. If you rush it you will miss it. It is a scenic drive with a limited speed limit. Why rush a scenic drive? "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should." mr.paul from Minnesota

Brand new and already smacked up!

Here is my poor man's answer. Kind of... I wear a Hi-Viz Darien jacket, a white helmet and I do something else that I feel is very important. A few years ago I read an article in Bike magazine, I think, that addressed this problem and also the person pulling out from an intersecting street...

    VW Money Pit

Cars or bikes, truely YMMV. Former sister in law had a Chevy Citation. For a time, the most recalled GM car. She sold it with over 300k miles on it because it got too rusty. Common problem where I live. I have a 99 Chrysler 300M with 200k miles that still runs like a top. Inspite of people...

    Installing new battery.

Good advice. Where I live, the bike will sit for 5-6 months. I have never had a problem in the spring even if I only topped off the charge a couple of times in that time period. If you are losing it all in a week or a month, either your battery is toast or something is drawing too much juice...

    fjr not safe to rided

Just a thought, doesn't the sparkplug "socket" that comes in the original tool kit fit into the hex recess of the axel? Is there really a need for a pipe wrench? Though I would like to have yet another tool (big hex wrench) I have yet to fail to replace my wheel without even resorting to the...
