So, apparently I can't own nice things. In an act of heinous retribution for having something nice, the universe decided that I wasn't quite going to get the stand out all the way when I went to dismount this evening. End result is my 33 day old, less than 1000 mile, shiny 2010 FJR has a few scuffs on her. Mostly on the mirror, though I've yet to see her in daylight. Hopefully that's all she got. Thankfully I listened to the farkle posts that said to get sliders. And while my back and shoulders aren't quite happy with the amount of effort it took to keep her from dropping hard and all the way, I'm hopeful that the mirror took the worst of it. Given that, are there any pro-tips for smoothing out and concealing such nasty business?

*cry*

Why even bother to try and save it. You only have one back that you can't replace. You can replace plastics and mirrors.

welcome

my thought for the next time, too ... let it go and roll out of the way if need be.

also, there's still riding time this season. maybe make a wknd into 3 days and do a tour ... post pics up, too!

If you dropped it on the mirror it is just possible that you have bent the 'frame' the mirrors are mounted on. This will normally show up by some of the front panels not lining up properly DAMHIK!

Hope it is all OK apart from a few scuffs. Take heart from the fact that you have joined a very extensive club!

Sorry for your drop but it happens. Feel free to copy and paste the Drop Club pic into your Sig line.

Look at the bright side it only happens once or twice.

Welcome to the not-so-exclusive club. My tipover switch has been sucessfully tested.

Recently, after 38,000 scuff-free miles on my 2006, I dropped it negotiatiing an uphill right hander from a standstill onto a major road. Best I can figure is my throttle grip slipped in my new gloves and the feej just died as I was pulling out. Deep scratches on the right side mirror, "melted" end on my slider and deep vertical scratches on the right saddle bag. I (not the bike) did a complete rollover in full gear and came out unscathed. I am bummed by the scratches on the bike, but realize I got by pretty good.

Enjoy the new found character on your FJR and fix the cosmetics as you can. Sorry about your scratching the new stuff but be glad you can still ride. It is about the ride after all, isn't it? Looks can be fixed later.

Hey as least you did'nt do it on your run of the dragon you might have had to add to the tree of shame  I have noticed it the FJR to be more top heavy than my old GSXR100 but maybe has to due with where the handlebars attach to the top tree closer together on the FJR then on the outside edges of the fork. Maybe something to due with fulcrum leverage I am dreading becoming part of that club

I feel your pain. Almost every vehicle I have bought has been used. The three new vehicles I have bought have all been motorcycles. My current FJR is the only that made it to the first payment without damage. :-( My first one was stolen before the first payment. I got it back, fixed it, and it was stolen again. I got back again, fixed it again, and my brother wrecked it. Got rid of the damn curse. My second bike I got surprised by a corner and ran off the road. All was well until I put the kickstand down. It fell over as soon as I turned my back on it. I just made the first payment on my current bike so that's a good thing.

No, he did it on "The Viking", the local motorcycle "Bunny" trail. Six year olds regularly crash their Hot Wheels there-I'm not surprised it got 'im, he's been getting pretty crazy since mom let him start riding on his own and after dark no less.

Just take it out for a nice ride in the early evening. The bugs will hide the scratches.

Jes go and kick that bee-ahtch over onto the other side.

That way you'll have matching, symmetrical scratches.

Once you have that outta the way, just go ride the damn thing. I bet ya won't even notice any scratches as you're heading down the road.

And remember: chicks dig scars, man.

The "you will never own anything nice grimlins" hit me as well. 7 days into ownership of my beloved 07, it rained alot, my garage roof leaked water into a dual sport tire hanging on the wall, it fell down, knocking a shaft type weed eater off it's assinged hanging position, it dropped down and fell onto my FJRs tank, Denting it badly! WTF? :dribble: But the new bike wasn't new anymore, so ride the hell out of it, which I have been doing for 4 years now. The dent is still there too.

A black sharpie works real well at hiding the scratches if there not to deep B)

So many sad stories. I will continue to soldier on, but 33 fricking days, come on! She's such a pretty machine to have such scars on her so soon. Six months to a year, maybe, but before the first payment?! Thankfully that seems to be the worst of it. A small scuff on the peg and a few minor scratches at the base of the saddle "bag". I dropped my first bike, which was used, on day 6, so this doesn't bode well for future machines either. Maybe I'll look into new mirrors, the field of view doesn't seem much improved over what folks have said about previous models.

Nate

Nate, I did the exact same thing (damn kick stand!!! I used the center stand for a year until I could trust that two-timing side stand again!!!) at about the very same point of ownership as you! I too sacrificed my body to allow Zelda to just kiss the ground. I was beside myself with regret for doing this to my new baby...

I finally got her back onto two wheels and VIOLA!!! Not a scratch on her! I still have no idea how that happened (the hand of God???)

Go enjoy that bike, the VERY best two wheeled machine this side of the galactic center! (since it is a Gen II)
