Just curious, what specifically didn't you like about the Metzlers? I still have the OEMs on and have nothing really to compare them with though they seem ok to me right now but when the time comes I may want to switch. :dribble:
The stock Metzlers cupped pretty bad at about 4700 miles. Prior to that they seemed to "dive" into corners, especially at slower speeds. Other then for about the first 1000 miles they felt very unstable and the wet traction I felt was pretty poor. I just did not feel comfortable with them. I put a set of the PR2s on my sons bike and noticed an improvement on the ride home. I just got back from a 1250 mile ride around BC and the tires were great.

Tires tend to be a personal choice thing and some guys have had very good luck with the Metzlers.

Yes I do notice the dive at slo-mo and am nearing that 4700 mark in probably a couple of days. I will be watching that front. Thanks for the info. :D

Wow, the different experiances from tires is just endlessly amazing.

I know some hated the origiinal Metz Z6's, but I ran 3 sets with great (for me) performance and mileage. An average of 9k per set is good in my opinion and they handled sporty through most of thier life.

I then tried the PR2's and got 12k out of them. I did get the "B" spec rear because of the "loaded or two-up" dealeo. I approximate a 2-up load sometimes by myself and with gear. I also carry a full-size passenger from time to time, so I thought the "B" would be a good idea. At the end of the 12,000 miles I still had a bit of tread left on the rear even though the front was done. They performed well enough that I just put another set of PR2's on with a "B" rear. I know people that did fine with the regular PR2, but consider that for my wieght and habits, a slight measure of "insurance" is worth it. If I am wrong, I am just out a few bucks.

And of course, this is just my opinion.

New tires always feel better. :yahoo:

That's just one of the axioms of motorcycling.

It's also what allows tire manufacturers to get so much of your damn money for a set. :glare:

All tires that have tread blocks will "cup" or "scallop" to some degree.

I can already feel it on my new PR2's with only ~2k miles on them.

Here's a good explanation why it happens, along with all of the other normal tire wear patterns: click me

I would disagree to some degree (hey that's catchy)

The Metzlers had the "dive" issue from the get go, I thought it was the bike.

I did the adjustment of the front end suspension (per the forum adjustment thread).

This helped a little but did not completely remove the problem.

When the tires started to cup they went fast and I am pretty anal about tire pressures.

When I put on the PR2s, immediately no dive and slow turn instability.

I hope I get more then one years use out of the PR2s, if not I may try something else.

One year of the Metlzers was enough for me to not go back to them.

(I couldn't get the upper to quote so I just put my response in bold)

Here's what someone at Michelin responded with when I inquired about the "B"-spec PR2 for the FJR1300:

Thank you for your email.

The Pilot Road 2 (B version) has more side stability and an additional ply,

this tire does not have any additional load capacity. I am showing

that the Pilot Road 2 is recommended for your bike.
