    Rear Brake problem

What wfooshee said. I had the same problem. Once the brake fluid has boiled, replace it as it will happen again in the most inopportune time. It is easy to replace the brake fluid, just get yourself a MightyVac and a fresh can on DOT4 brake fluid. Follow this excellent link on FJRTech.com, but...

    Hot weather fuel problem

It happened to me too when I was on my way from Las Vegas to St. George a couple of years ago. Two up riding in 106+ temp, full load, uphill. When I stopped the tank was too hot to touch. After fueling up and a little cool down time, the sputtering problem went away. Since then I installed...

We don’t need no stinking 6th gear in the FJR

+1. IMHO the FJR has enough torque to comfortably handle one more gear on TOP OF the fifth we currently have. It would be nice to see a sleepy 2700 RPM cruising at 65, and since most of the torque is available at that RPM, we wouldn't even have to shift down to make a quick pass at highway...

Moving the top case back for passenger comfort & considering a topcase luggage rack

I ordered a 12"x12", 3/16 in aluminum plate, and cut it so that the hole pattern can be offset by 2" from the original. It works great, and my wife - and I - are comfortable on our trips. The solution did not cost much and is not pretty, but no one can see it because the top box covers the...

Gen1 Cam Chain Tensioner (CCT) Replacement Lessons Learned

FJRBluesman Well, I went back to Sears - twice. The first time I got the 8mm ratcheting wrench you mentioned in your post. You were right, it is much thinner than the GearWrench I got earlier. But, the gap between the CCT body and the bolt head was too tight, and when the wrench almost went on...

Gen1 Cam Chain Tensioner (CCT) Replacement Lessons Learned

Thanks, FJRBluesman! I am going back to Sears, and get the wrench with the part number in your post. I have the replacement part on hand, just need to take out the old one first. Silverbear

Gen1 Cam Chain Tensioner (CCT) Replacement Lessons Learned

Brodie, I was thinking along the same lines, but was hoping for a quicker, off-the shelf solution I have not thought of before. Thanks for your suggestion, it seems I am heading that way. Silverbear

Gen1 Cam Chain Tensioner (CCT) Replacement Lessons Learned

I tried to use the ratcheting wrenches, but am not able to get the head of the wrench over the bolt, as the body of the CCT is too close to it. My regular (non-ratcheting) wrench fits, but can't turn it at all in the narrow gap. My bike is a 2003, with 43K miles on it. The ratcheting set I have...

    Brakes

While you are checking or changing the pads it is a good idea to check the rotor widths also with a micrometer. The new front rotors' width is 5mm, and the rear one is 6 mm. The minimum thickness of the rotors are only 0.5 mm thinner than new ones, 4.5 mm (front) and 5.5 mm (rear). That is not a...

    Burnt shoes.

The newer Easy Off COLD oven cleaner (blue can) works like a charm. Spray it on a cold pipe, leave on overnight, wipe off with a damp sponge in the morning. That's it. Really. I used it many times - leaves no mark of any kind. Silverbear

    engine noise in starcom

I had the same problem, but a cable from www.sportbikeeffects.com fixed it. The cable is a Nav/Radar Isolated Cable - Garmin 2610 - 2.5mm Plug Product ID: CAB-35. Silverbear

    Garmin StreetPilot 2720 to StarCom1 - Buzzing

As a test I tried plugging a headphone directly into the GPS power/audio cable directly when I was trying to trouble shoot the buzzing issue, but to my surprise, the headphones did not work. Actually, I tried two sets of headphones that I know are good, but neither worked. I don't know why. By...

    Garmin StreetPilot 2720 to StarCom1 - Buzzing

Bike Effects and Ignacio Thank you for your replies. From the Motorcycle power/Audio cable (Garmin P/N:010-10495-02) I am using a Radio Shack 1/8" to 1/8" extension cord all the way to the StarCom1 unit. I use a 1/8" to 3/32" adapter plug to fit the 1/8" extension into the audio outlet of the...

    Garmin StreetPilot 2720 to StarCom1 - Buzzing

Hello All, I am hoping that one of the many wizards on this board encountered and solved the problem I am experiencing, and is willing to share his or her wisdom. I just hooked up my new Garmin StreetPilot 2720 to my older StarCom1 unit. I hear the voice commands just fine through my helmet...

    Luggage Rack

I've been using the Rubbermaid shelf liner cut to the shape of the luggage rack and secured tu it with Gaffer's tape. The gaffer's tape leaves no residue, sticks well, but is easy remove and tear to size.

    Yellowstone NP and Ravens

My wife and I just returned from a 2800 mile round trip from So. Cal to Yellowstone NP on our 2003 FJR. On the way we visited Zion, Brice, and Grand Canyon North Rim National Parks. The trip was hands down awesome. We would do it in a heartbeat again if we had the time and money. The scenery and...

Great little digital tire gauge ($6)

I have this guage too, and it works on the FJR, but is a very tight fit. Works a little better if you bend the valve stem a bit sideways with one hand and press the guage on with the other. Also, if you are measuring the front tire pressure then be sure that the brake rotors are cold because...

    Replacement Valve Guide Seals

Skyway Thank you for your recommendation about a good dealership. One thing is for sure - I will never take my bike back to where it is now, and if it takes me a longer ride to get the job done right, so be it. I will keep your recommendation. Thank you! Silverbear

    Replacement Valve Guide Seals

Twowheelnut, It is, unfortunately, the Ventura dealership. I have been in touch with Ojai Roy, and I am keeping him in the loop about what's happening with my bike. His bike is due for the same service as mine, so he is interested in the outcome of my experience. I will be more than happy to...
