Hello All,

Recently I had my FJR serviced at the local Yamaha Service Deparment to resolve the "Excessive Valve Guide Wear" issue. Aside from waiting for two months to get the service completed, I had a horrible experience. My tank was dented, parts (fasteners and bolts) were missing from the bike. I am still in the midst of resolving these issues, and - of course - they have no knowledge of the dent, which did not happen at the shop. :angry01:

The other major concern I have is that when I received the bike I noticed that the paperwork stated that the valve seals installed were the "old" seals - indicated by the part number. I asked the service department about this, and - supposedly - they checked into the issue with Yamaha. They were told that the new part numbers are the same exact valve guides as the previous ones with the only differece being that they are from a different supplier. When I disagreed with them based on the information I learned on this forum, they told me that it is unlikely that Yamaha told them wrong information, and it is my information that is incorrect.

Did anyone have a similar experience with their repair?

Thank you!

Welcome Silverbear. Nothing like sparking a fire with your first post, eh? I have also had my own ticking exploits and I think the 'supposed' new seals are in fact the same part# as the one they replace.

Oh boy, sorry to hear about that. Fastners wouldn't bother me too much, but a dented tank, the fur would be flying. :butcher: :rtfm:

REALLY sorry to hear the mess you in. Call Yamaha in Cypress and complain loudly about the dealer! Call the BBB. Call the credit card company if you had to pay any of it that was not warranty work.

Also post up the dealers name so other owners can steer clear of the place, just as Skyway posted up the retards at the Bird Honda / Yamaha dealer

Thank you for your sympathy, I was PO'd beyond belief when I discovered the shortcomings of the repair job. After confronting the Service Manager with the list of problems, he took the bike back and promised to fix all issues listed. When I spoke with them last they told me that all problems have been taken care of, except for the dent in the tank (they didn't do it and it is pretty much my problem, he said). So I had a heated conversation with the SM, after which he said that he will have his body guy look at it, and try to fix it. This is where I stand now.

At this time I prefer not to name the dealership openly - I am still hoping that what happened to me is an exception, and not the way they normally do business. It is enough to say that I took my bike to where I purchased it, at a well-known dealership in Ventura County in Southern California.

I promised, and will follow up diligently on my promise to the dealership - If the bike is not repaired to my satisfaction this time, I will contact Cypress, the BBB, and everyone I have means to get in touch with to tell my story with the dealership's name and the detailed list of problems I experienced.

As always, I appreciate the commroddery, and the wealth of information on this site.

It maybe too little too late now for you, but I took mine to Yamaha of Cucamunga after dealing with a similar bunch of clowns that you are describing. It is a long way for me to travel, but well worth it IMO. This dealership takes care of business in a very professional manner, I cannot say enough good things about them.

I hate the denial of damage BS that some try to ram down my throat. I'm glad to hear that you won't stand for it either.

If it's the Ventura dealer, you need to talk to the owner directly. I buy most of my stuff from them and have always had good luck. You may want to give Ojai Roy a call as he is the president of CalCoast Riders, the club sponsored by CCMS. He knows the owner well and might be able to offer some insight or guidance. Roy's cards are on the cashiers desk.

If it's the dealer in Thousand Oaks, I fear you may be outta luck... bad rep overall is the word on the street. I've also heard good things about the dealer over in Simi Valley.

FWIW, I've also had great service and buying experience at Santa Barbara MS, which, oddly enough is owned by the same folks in Thousand Oaks! Go figure.

PS, when you get your issues resolved come ride with us. 2nd Sunday of each month... https://calcoastriders.com/menu.html

Twowheelnut,

It is, unfortunately, the Ventura dealership. I have been in touch with Ojai Roy, and I am keeping him in the loop about what's happening with my bike. His bike is due for the same service as mine, so he is interested in the outcome of my experience.

I will be more than happy to join you for rides in the future, I just need to get my bike back.

All the best to you, and looking forward to meeting you soon.

Thank you for your recommendation about a good dealership. One thing is for sure - I will never take my bike back to where it is now, and if it takes me a longer ride to get the job done right, so be it. I will keep your recommendation.

Thank you!
