    Bags vs Key

Design engineers just can't win!! Provide a glove box that is electrically locked ... unhappy. Provide hard bags that are mechanically locked ... unhappy. If someone doesn't like switching off the bike when wanting to open the hard bags, and doesn't like the cheap two-key solution, then...

    Another Loctite issue?!

Thank you ShinyPartsUp for your detailed response and the links. The 2nd link was my situation, and it was bad to know that some GenII bikes had this issue, but good to know that mine was not a unique situation. Now to the Loctite.

    Another Loctite issue?!

2008 FJR1300A (California model) 6000 miles Recently both my rear view mirrors were loose in their mountings on the fairing. Opened up the respective panels to tighten the nuts and found that one nut on each mirror had completely fallen off!! Coincidentally, both the nuts were the lower ones...

    2010 Yamaha FJR Intro

Perfect timing for Honda. The ho-hum Honda decides to be exciting finally, and the exciting Yamaha goes ho-hum this round. Great opportunity and timing for the new VFR, and maybe the ST.

    Best Faceshield Cleaner?

Plexus - helmet visor and windshield. Smaller can more convenient to carry. Pricey though.

    Windshield drive unit

Thank you for the excellent response!! Curious - What has the Neutral indicator got to do with this circuit?

    Windshield drive unit

I searched (not very hard) and couldn't find it. Out of the eight wires I have the following wires from the drive unit figured out, but don't know where the remaining two go: 1) Positive 2) Ground 3) Jumper to deactivate windshield retraction at ignition off 4) Jumper to deactivate...

    Anti-vibe Bar Mount

Links work now - thanks for pointing out. Also, thanks for giving me a way out with boatswain's mate - but, I will stick with bum.

    Anti-vibe Bar Mount

Meosborn, I have asked exactly the same question here - https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?s...=115579&hl= Brodie provided a logical answer as to why it would not be such a good idea. And, a rant here - https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?s...19743&st=20 Sure there is a high...

    Spencer mod

I did that mod a little while ago. Have put at least a 1000 miles since then. In my case it helped just a little bit - still can't do over 2 hours at a stretch - start feeling the pain around 45 minutes to an hour into the ride. However, seats and seat modifications are very specific to each...

Tyler down in serious condition in Idaho!

Dialysis is unnerving news - hoping it's a one-time, small glitch in an otherwise steady recovery. My Best Wishes!!

    Salvage yard parts

Or, buy lunch/beer for a friend who has an AE and is willing to dismantle the same part on his bike. You can then try looking for matching sub-parts in hardware stores. Parts with special shapes could be fabricated yourself from aluminum or something since they will be quite small and maybe...

    Roadside jump start

The disclaimer was "... depending on how it is wired (I haven't used one, so I could be off here)." :glare:

    Roadside jump start

Since riders love farkling, this issue lends an opportunity for a new one. One could install a remote battery terminal under the seat like some cars do under their hoods when the batteries are in the trunk or under the seat and not easily accessible. Come to think of it, the fuse blocks that...

08 FJR R&R Clutch Plate Soak

From Yamaha website - "For 2009, the FJR1300A receives an updated clutch to reduce lever pressure for rider comfort." From the parts list, the unit called the Push Lever Comp. has been changed to exactly what Gen I models used to have ($96) vs. '06-'08 models ($69). This has been reported...

    Electrical Problems

Thank you Ray. I was wondering whether that end connection is weak thereby heating up this wire, which in turn heats up the coupler. In which case, there has to be some tell-tale sign of heating at that final grounding point too. Maybe, someone like un4gvn, who has access to a removed harness...

    Electrical Problems

Going through this thread and a related one (https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=113632&st=0) I couldn't find any mention of where that return ground wire goes to. Meaning, where is it grounded - to some point on the frame, to some other coupler (sic), where? Pardon me if I...

Need a little decision help from FJR owners...

I switched from a VTX18C to the FJR - never checked the C14 (technically more appealing than the FJR, but the exhaust aesthetics killed it for me, not to mention the inconvenient and expensive maintenance). If C14 is out, BMW ruled out for price, and ST1300 for its ho-humness, then you are...

    glove box power outlet

Not trying to be a smart ass, but by the book: "The accessory connected to the auxiliary DC jack should not be used with the engine turned off, and the load must never exceed 30 W (2.5 A), otherwise the battery may discharge."
