First Long Distance Trip (Kind Of)

Thanks for all the replies but this was definitely the best advice. I do think I will pack a tire plugging kit along with a portable inflater.

First Long Distance Trip (Kind Of)

My Wife and I are taking the FJR to the beach this weekend. It's about a 5 hour ride, 300 miles. I realize this is nothing for most people but I've only been riding for a few months. Just curious what accessories, packing tips you guys have. I've bought rain gear, tank bag, touring trunk and...

    Geico saved the day

Yeah, That's what I'm nervous about. We all know how hard it is to just cruise on the FJR. Even 80mph feels boring. My saving grace is I'm a reserve police officer in my town so I always carry my badge when I'm riding. It is definitely not a guaranteed way to avoid a ticket but it sure helps!

    Geico saved the day

When I was looking at buying an FJR, the deciding factor was going to be insurance cost. I'm a 25 year old married male with no incidents in three years. My trade-in ('05 KLR650) was insured with Farmers. Full coverage was about $550/year. A quote for full coverage on the '09 FJR was about...

    Just took the plunge.......

I just took ownership of a new '09 less than two weeks ago. I'm at a little over 1,000 miles and can't WAIT to get on it again. I don't know how you have been sleeping. My dealer was able to get one overnight but I barely slept that night. Good luck with the purchase and be safe!

Out of the mouths of babes...

I've had my FJR less than two weeks and have had this happen twice. My father-in-law rides with me and he has a '72 Harley all decked out in flames, skulls, etc. In the past 10 days, 2 kids have come up and said "Wow, I like your bike! It's like a sport bike with bags!".

    Pillion Riding Position

Thanks for the great info. I'm looking up the Cee Baily now. The stock window seems to create some weird vaccum/tunnel between our helmets that I don't have when riding alone. Has anyone else noticed that or am I just crazy?

    Pillion Riding Position

That's awesome. I wish they were free here. I just took the MSF class and would love for my wife to also but I'm sure she would want me to go through it with her and I don't have $500 to spend right now. Especially, since I'm saving up for a Zumo!

Rider to Passenger Communication with radio

Thanks for the SCALA Q2 reviews. I'm excited because it offers the exact functionality I wanted at the cost I was wanting to spend. I realize a Starcom/Autocom would be a superior system and Bluetooth isn't the best option for Bike to Bike communication but I'm only concerned about Rider to...

    Pillion Riding Position

I like the direction this thread has went. Now I just need to convince my wife that is the proper way to ride. <_<

Rider to Passenger Communication with radio

Thanks for the link. It got me on the right track. That kind of setup was exactly what I was looking for but after a bunch of googling and reviews, it looked like people prefer the Scala Q2 over the Chatterbox. I found the Scala Q2 Multiset (comes with 2 headsets plus input jacks) for $242...

    Pillion Riding Position

Thanks. I've tried getting her to move to this position but she says she's much more comfortable holding the grab rails. She uses them when we accelerate and brake to keep her balance. I agree. I started this thread for the comm system.

Rider to Passenger Communication with radio

I'm looking to get a Rider to Passenger communication system. I've read 20+ posts trying to learn but I think I'm confusing myself. I'm hoping if I post EXACTLY what I want, maybe someone can point me in the right direction. My perfect system would include the following: -Wireless...

    Pillion Riding Position

Yes, her helmet isn't the issue. I just think she will have to learn to deal with the wind.

    Pillion Riding Position

My wife is very new to riding on the back of a motorcycle. She probably has less than 300 miles in the saddle so I'm sure that explains most of what I'm about to ask, but I'm about to ask anyway. 1.) What position works best for you guys. I know this is personal preference more than anything...
