Chicago area FJR riders: Pizza and Bevs in February 2013

What a great memory! Lousy weather that day but I had a blast anyway. Work relocated me to the Seattle area a year ago. It's a great part of the country but I still miss being near SW Wisconsin, SE Ohio, and (thanks to you introducing me to the area) northern Arkansas. I've noted the October...

If I were 2000 miles closer, I'd be there. I miss this cast of characters.

    Tour of Nothing

Cool! Thanks for sharing. It's just too bad you ended up seeing something.

    Vick wins Eagles' courage award...

Yep, so common for some pro athletes and celebrities to be out of touch with reality. Unfortunately, this type of recognition only further perpetuates it.

    Tough Crossings

That was a tremendous amount of rain in MO at the end of October. Wheaton and I were fortunate to get out of dodge before most of the flooding happened since, as we rode SW out of Bonne Terre, we could see the creeks raging and rising over their banks. It made for a patience-trying ride that...

SPOT messenger version 2 battery/power issues

Is battery life so diminished in the Second Generation Spot devices to warrant all this work? I've used my Gen 1 Spot for a year, including 5 multi-day motorcycle trips, a 3-day backpacking trek, an 8-day bicycle trek, and countless day rides, yet my battery is still alive. Even if the new...

270 miles to take a picture of a bridge...

Nice ride report. Photo tag is a great excuse to get out and ride.

Help me not get screwed please

+1. You've got nothing to lose by offering low. I did that a couple years ago and the dealer wouldn't budge. I walked and purchased another bike. A week later, that same dealer called and left a message telling me he would accept my offer. When I didn't return the call, he called several...

    Great books about motorcycles

I wondered about that but have dragged my feet getting the book since I thought it might be repetitious. Guess I should check it out. Thanks.

    Great books about motorcycles

I highly recommend these books but note that "The Masked Rider" is about Neil's late-1980's bicycle journey thru Cameroon in West Africa. Just didn't want you to think it was motorcycle-related.

    Aerostich Balaclava

I have the basic Aerostitch balaclava and it works well. Not too thick, not too thin = not too hot, not too cold. Durability seems ok. My favorite side benefit is that it does a great job keeping my earphones in place and not gradually falling out of my ears!

Got to try out my new Gerbings gloves this week

No complaints here on my Gerbings G2's (and I tend to be cold most of the time). Just another one of those subjective things I guess. Strom handguards make a big difference for the tops of the hands.

Wheaton and I tackle the Twisty Butt Arkansas All Day 500

It was not my usual ride report. When I had the time to take photos, the weather did not cooperate. Then, when the weather cleared, I was too busy covering 500 miles of twisty to stop and take decent photos. All worth it though ... except all the photos of Wheaton nearly broke my camera!

Morning Ride Foiled - Bike Won't Start

Since it started for a few seconds, I don't think this is the issue but try holding the throttle wide open while thumbing the starter to see if it will fire again. This could take a few attempts. That's the common solution to the "it-won't-start-after-I-just-washed-it" problem.

    GPS -- How it works

So all an enemy would have to do is knock out 7 of the satellites, the GPS system would not operate, and we'd all be left wandering lost and aimlessly, having no clue as to where to go? Dogs and cats living together. Complete anarchy. :P

Wheaton and I tackle the Twisty Butt Arkansas All Day 500

Oh yeah, something did happen on the ride home. I either lost my iPass toll transponder or some miscreant swiped it during one of our fuel stops. I prefer not to believe the latter but, after thousands of miles with it attached in two different places, it never so much as budged a millimeter...
