After commuting 75 miles round trip on my 06 Gen II for a couple years now, I FINALLY get around to searching out this thread... I usually fill up after every other commute because my reserve countdown would come on at about the 190-200 mile mark and I wasn't sure about another 25 miles or so...

Bought my Gen II (2006) almost exactly 12 months ago with 58,300 on it. Figured almost 17K in one year wasn't too bad for a newbie who hasn't had a bike in about 20 years. Helped a lot by a 70 mile round-trip commute and a 4K+ trip out to Colorado from VaBeach this last summer.

I think you will be (not just trying to sell you a windshield). If I hunched over a bit, I could get a relatively quiet buffet-free zone. We tall guys will never get the "cone of silence" - but the CalSci was very close to what seemed reasonable for me - I would get some buffeting just around...

I'm going to take a little different tact here. I think there are a lot of riders/passengers that have never had anyone offer a non-confrontational expression of concern for their safety. It might just get to start thinking about it. If they are offended, just apologize and let it go - then...
