    Too much forward lean

I think you are working on the wrong end of the bike. The front sag is completely adjustable. You still need a loaded and unloaded measurement and if it is off specs. then just crank the springs. Also I like the fork tubes to be flush with the top of the triple clamp. I am not afraid to go 1/4...

2008 won't go into neutral when stopped, shift fine when rolling

My 03 did the same thing. The large pivot for the shifter was very dry, and I very seldom ride in the rain. I installed a grease zerk and have not had a problem since. Bernie

    death wobble

I think I have already posted this in the past! Bought a used bike,FJR, Had a terrible wobble with hands off. The front tire looked terrible, cupped all to hell! Read about timpkin bearings Replaced them with All Balls I think. Stopped all the problems!!! Put about another 5000 to 6000 on the...

    fork spring spacers

You are right. I also can not read as I had a problem and had to cut the spacers longer after the first try. I am assuming that you had the pre-adjusters in the up position? If so, then 30 mm should be about right. Bernie

    Top box

Does anyone know who the manufacturer is for the top boxes (travel trunk) that JC whitney carries in their catalog. I need some parts. Bernie

Cdogs Air Box Mod... So damm simple even a "Caveman" could do it

I am concerned about the "dust" shown in the first picture, before the mod. Were you running a stock paper filter, was there some other problem Etc? I know I have had some with dust penetration on various applications before while running K&N's.

    Wobbles tun to tank slapper!

My bike also had a bad shake(bought it used) had cupped tires etc. but I finally fixed it with new tapered head bearings and a lot of preload. I am convinced that the preload is the key to the whole problem. Take it back to the dealer and have them retorque the head bearings. If this does not...

    Steering head bearing retorqued

The nut you are talking about is round with slots in it. In a pinch it can be torqued ou with a hammer and a flat punch. I like them to be tight , with a little preload. Forget about the little spanner that YAMA. sells you don't need it. Bernie

    New Spark plug Wires

Have you checked the resisters in the caps that snap onto the plugs? If not there is a large headed screw inside the cap(the end of the plug goes inside this screw, plug ,whatever. If you take it out there is a small resister (Gray I think) and a spring approx. 1' long check for carbon tracking...

    New battery?

Has anyone tried Power Source batteries, They are claiming 180 CCA and a 1 year warrenty? Ebatteries has them for $69.99, haven't looked anyplace else. Bernie

    frustrated with HEAD SHAKE

I think I have finally cured my problem with headshake. As I memtioned in a previous p[ost I have replaced fork springs (1.2),oil,then tapered head bearings(timpkin type)Plus slightly increased the torque on the bearings. All this helped about 60% and I think that new tires may fix the rest...

    Handguns

I think this is the funniest thing that I have ever heard A guy from Ill. telling a guy from Alaska how to handle big bears. HA HA If you think that .454 is going to knock out a big bear, you either need to do some hunting or a hell of a lot of shooting. Bernie

    Internal Tire Balancing beads.

Be very cautious. I was running a semi-truck about 3 years ago and at that time the dispatcher was insisting that we put golf balls in the steer tires( I did not get any yet). some time later we had three trucks blow out steer tires within 3 months. That scared me bad enough that I would not use...

    frustrated with HEAD SHAKE

I got my 03 this past summer and I experienced the exact same problem. Know very little about its past history so I have been going through it slowly. My front tire has about 4.5/32" of tread and it is cupped also. I tried torqueing the head bearings, this did nothing. Tried adding another 20...

    Clack, Clack, Claickity,Clack,Click

Imight add that I totally agree with all the above posts, but my bike will also get very cluncky (ha) when the oil gets dirty. Bernie

    Sonic Fork Springs

Has anyone tried them, I sort of like the three different weights to choose from it might help us fat boys.

final drive lash on 06 FJR

I just measured the driveline backlash om my 03 and it was one & one half inches. (been reading the older posts, sorry) Bernie

    Thermostat

Because my Service manual says that the bike has a 180 degree thermostat. And I am still hung up on the numbers that I have been quoted, (all my life anyway) That for every 1000 miles you drive with the engine temp. below 170 degrees F you are getting 0.001" of cylinder wear.! Is this no...
