Replace the battery!
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too.
If it started losing power after a charge, it sounds like either the battery isn't retaining the charge or the starter is drawing too many amps. Perhaps, when the problem first reared it's head, the start circuit was drawing enough poser that there wasn't sufficient extra for the ignition circuit. That's just a guess...I am NOT an electrical person nor have I ever played on on stage or in a movie.

My money is on the former rather than the latter. You might try jumping it from a car battery.

She runs! I jumped it off the car battery. I have a voltmeter on the bike, it always read good values, but maybe it doesn't have enough cold cranking amps? The battery isn't too very old, have to go check my records. No diagnostic codes of interest except possibly 09 which read 11.8 and should be 12? Anyhoo, thanks for all the advices.

James Burleigh, is that old thing just a pile o rubble in your garage now? Bummer.

I had a battery that acted like that. It held a good surface charge and looked good on the volt meter. I'm guessing that a good draw test will show it's done with its life cycle. For unknown reasons some just don't have longevity. Maybe one of the really smart and learned folks can explain it...the rest of us simply go by practical experience.

I'm glad it is running, that has to be of some relief!

I just looked up my records. It is a Westco, close to three years old. I would expect a longer life than that.

And yes, it's a relief to be running. Not sure if a ride is in the cards for me today, it's a family holiday. But we'll see if she starts tomorrow without a jump, now that the system is blown out.

I'm not so sure, Jerry. 3 years seems to be about right for Westco.

That being said...I think mine is about 3 years old..... :dribble: .....now I have to go check my maintenance records.

When you have the battery out you should install a jumper to the positive node on the battery and connect it to

a stud so you can jump the scoot at will without having to take the plastic off. I did this earlier this year

when my battery started getting weak. Still have to replace the battery but that will come at a later time.

It's handy if you have to jump another bike or just need a reference voltage in some odd scenario. On top of

that you can always check your voltage with bike running without plastic removal.

WTF happened to odot? THAT ain't an odot post. Seems like it's got 'bout the right post count, and the "useless, tejas" location our beloved Texan Eskimo used, but what the hell did the imposter who is now posting as odot do with the real odot? Ain't no way that just gettin married woulda done THAT, . . . unless . . . that is, unless . . . it's a spouse who broke in and is doing the posting. Cuz she might not know that our odot crashed bikes, he didn't farkle them, and he sure as hell didn't give advice on farklin or fixin them to a "bunch of twats" on the forum.

ANYONE?

We may have to send Bust down to tejas to investigate.

I'll take some credit for getting your bike running...............using the car battery.
Credit well earned. Thank you very much!!

BTW it now starts just fine off the battery, including cold this morning. For some reason it needed hella power to start after not running awhile. It's nice to be back on the Feejer.

On a closer to home post...It seems a marriage is always on the brink of divorce. We found a point today that brought us closer together but we are still arguing the small stuff. I was about to pull all of my musical gear out til we had our little chat. It's the finer points that kept us together today. Y'all take note. I almost started calling folks for a place to sleep tonight.

This is your first one, I presume. . . . *sigh* . . . Hang in there, Ray. It's said that it can work, and there are certainly times when a woman sure can be a good friend. But alas . . .

Divorce is WAY underrated!
Indeed, sir, but I believe you still have understated it. I'm having a run of crazy woman **** myself. The ex (we split 8 years ago in July) hit me up this morning to make her a 3 year loan of $15K for a newer Lexus SUV, while she is contemplating filing bankruptcy. Huh? And then she gives me some kind of attempted guilt based "friend in need" ****, as if I am the one in the wrong here. WTF?!?

That F'ing divorce decree there is constantly seeming more valuable. I thought we were friends, but maybe I'm gonna have to re-evaluate what that means to her. She needs a newer Lexus?

Ya think that if I was dumb enough to make that loan that THAT wouldn't start WW III with the current GF?!? Who is none too happy with me for unknown reasons (well, for being right about a few things). And then, tonight is the 1 year anniversary of the last GF going super ultra bat **** f'ing drunken crazy on my stone cold sober *** as I was about to get some sleep before riding to WCR on Vancouver Island.

Look what ya done, Howie -- got me started. :dribble:

Sorry, odot -- don't pay no attention to us embittered more experienced forumites.

Also good for arc welding at a moments notice.

2x would have been retired by now..

Get off yer wallet you cheep skate! LOL, I suggest you buy her a new BATTERY to fulfill life enjoyment.. Hey, someone just might have an OK battery you could gift... :p

(see how I brought it back on topic, and I ain't even a lawyer or nuttin'!)

"Two days ago I ran into a rig like that".....um...nevermind the roadwarrior quote. Um, two days ago I almost walked out the door with all of my musical gear and **** all else. Now, I'm in the same room with my clock and counting the minutes before I have to go to sleep. I'm ****** and so is my marriage. I'm pissed, worried, angry, close to tears and in a world of hurt. I can't explain myself and according to my wife never will be able to.

On top of that....I think I just pissed off iggie. Go figure. Word to the wise....don't ever get married. <_<
