I'm absolutely amazed no one caught this ---

If the indicator at the bottom left is, indeed, the gear indicator, then the '06 is an 8 speed!

YEE-HAW!!!

Wrong grasshopper. Notice every figure shown is an 8, obviously a default display on a non-running machine. The "0" rpms might give a hint. Sit in back and be quiet for the rest of the period.

My biggest objection to the '06 instruments is they way they dorked up the speedometer sweep. Look what they have done: the numbers are so close together, there is only a 90-degree sweep between 0-mpg and 70-mph.. that's a bit too constrained, IMO.
Being somewhat visually challenged (gave up on tri-focals), the speedo on Frank (05) wins no contests either. But I agree-you have a 360 degree dial-use it.
Here ya go:

Will help you complete the Dork look that you're after...

Whats the little plate/cover on the handle bar, held in place w/screw? just a cover to hide the attach bolts? are they running electrical and fluid lines inside the bars? Bet ya a nickle that cover is painted plastic. And whats in the two round circles under the digital display? engine, bright, neutral, oil warning lights are in the speedo. I like my LARGE green turn indicators better as well, w/o auto shut off I sometimes forget to push them off but I pick up the light in the corner of my eye to remind me, those little indicators on the 06 can be easily missed by simple minded people like me........boiled shrimp, fried shrimp..... Over all I like the layout, guess I'll reserve final opinion until I have the opportunity to lay eyes on it.

Ok Radio, put the fishin pole up.  You caught one.  A biggun too. :p   :p   :p   :p   :p   :p   :p
Damn, didn't hardly even stretch the line, much less warm up the drag. :)

Just goes to show, the honor of FJR Wing Commander has nothing to do with avoiding biting a big ol' hook.

BTW, call me "Howie". "Radio" is just too formal. It's what I do, not who I am.

:D

They are the covers to the access for bar adjustments. Remember, the '06 has adjustable bars.

Two circles under the display are likely the set buttons for the display
Finger funnels! But, will they become gloved finger filters preventing gloved actuation? Someone is going to have to wear a glove to the next show.

 fried shrimp....boiled shrimp......barbecue shrimp, mine are adjustable and it only cost me 25.00 from our classified. I'll go back and crawl under my rock and hide for a while.

The Yamaha Canada site say that the turn signals are self cancelling. The following is a clip from their site. Go to the bottom of their page to see it.

"All new mirror shape and design is more sporty. The mirrors fold for convenience.

Redesigned dual-bulb taillight assembly features a shape change for improved appearance and integrated turn signals for a slick, integrated look.

New stylish clear front and rear turn signal lens

Self cancelling turn signals

Small under seat area can hold a small U-lock.

Low-maintenance sealed battery"

I hope this works. First time I trying to insert a link Dave

Now that is something I haven't read or heard about. Waaay kewel if true. As much as some people carry on about them, I would expect them to run out and buy an '06! ;)

Makes me miss the digital readout from my R1.
They really missed the boat on this one. A digital speedo and an analog tach are the best display, IMHO.

I don't care for digital anything, but if it had to have some, I'd rather the speedo than a tach. A tachs range and the pointers position depend on having the entire range visible, to avoid over-revs, where a digital blurs as the revs climb rapidly. If I have to have a digital tach, an adjustable, easily seen shift light would be mandatory.

Since you brought it up, "Can the self-cancelling turn signals be retrofitted to the '05 ?", he asks inquisitively. Inquiring minds want to know.
