Hi all:

Yes it is only my 3rd post, but I have a basic question. How do I remove the front section of the 06 seat. The key unlocks the rear part and the manual is under the front part. While I am on the subject, under the rear section there are two rubber straps. What should be held down there if anything. The tool kit and manual are under the front section.

Thanks

On your left side at the rear under the front section is a little locking/unlocking lever. Flip it left, and pull the seat up.

I put my manual in a plastic bag, along with registration and insurance. I strap them in under the rear seat so that when I'm asked to show them (NEVER HAPPENS <_< ) I don't have to remove both seats.

Can't you also rotate the key the other way to unlock the front portion, once the rear is taken off?

Thanks for the quick reply. I just wanted to make sure I was not missing anything since the manual and tools are under the front section. Did not know if the bike should have come with anything else under there.

Thanks again,

You have to stick a finder in the slot and fiddle with the lever -

...as long as the subject is seats, rather than start a new thread I'll ask here (a search didn't turn anything up).

Just took home a 2007 that had 1,177 miles on it. Very happy....

The seat is adjusted to it's tall setting - I see the switchable standoff bracket near the front seat latch, but the front up against the tank is a little bit wiggly, as though it wasn't being held in place correctly. The tab obviously doesn't go under the low 'receiver' slot - but sitting atop it, it looks as though there's maybe a little adapter missing.

I haven't been able to find a picture of that, except for Corbin's online install pdf (which isn't conclusive, just adds to the mystery). Stock seats fore and aft - the Corbin pdf came up in a Google search.

Take a look at your owner's manual. <Link>

Page 3-16 (page 34 of 111 in the .pdf) shows the front piece.

Thanks for the link - the bike didn't come with one. It's only been mine for a couple of days.

I figured it out this afternoon after taking a longer look at what's under there.

I didn't realize the black plastic piece that hinges was an adjustable piece - now that it's in the right spot all is correct.

When I took delivery of the (used w/ 1177 miles on it) bike the other day, they did the ECU/altitude recall/TSB and I asked them to leave the seat in the high position. They missed moving that piece.

Do you have a link to the '08 manual?
When in doubt, check FJR Forum > FJR Technical Forums > FAQs and Common Historical Info > '06-'08 Bin-O-Facts (Generation II)

The link to the '08 manual isn't there yet, but the link to the Yamaha website is.

2008 Standard Model <Link>

I had no doubt there was a link somewhere.

But I could not find it.

And yes, I checked the Bin-O-Facts.
