I was just kind of amazed that an employee of DynoJet would, in effect, state that unplugging the O2 was "most" of the fix; it kind of makes the PCIII seem like just some icing on the cake.
Try and pin that same employee down for a definitive quote that he will allow you to attribute back to him. If he won't stand behind his statement how confident of it is he? How confident of it should you be?

Pretty bold statements there Fred.

Got any FACTS to back them up?
I got better than facts. I have a bike that is fixed without any ECU tricks. The power delivery is smooth and predictable and all the drive line lash is gone. The problem is the progressive throttle pulley. Plain and simple. I don't know why it is so hard to understand, it is pretty obvious why the 06 has a sensitive throttle.
Hey, Fred! How's that world full of nails treating you? Hammer on, d00d! :)

Can I break out the "beating a dead horse" gif now? can I ? huh, huh, can I?

I've never seen so many issues with a bike.....throttle pulls, rebalancing the carbs, PC3s, O2s, Mapping, etc.....The 06 is starting to sound like a pig in a poke to me!!!All I wanted was I bike I didn't have to screw with, that's why I cancelled my deposit on an 06 BMWGT (I was first in line) and went for the FJR AE I don't even have yet, as I'm not a wrench, nor want to be one.......

Are all these issues something the dealer can take care of ?

I don't know why I sold my 83 Honda V-65 back!!!!!!! 22 years without one freaking prob!!!!

I sold my 05 to buy the new and improved 06. Now all I've been doing is trying to cure the problems instead of riding. Please don't tell me that it is me and I should learn to adjust to Yamaha's mistakes. I also have a 06 Hayabusa and for smootheness it runs rings around the FJR.

There now I feel better. Venting does help.

Relax. The '06 is fine out of the box for most. Ride the bike, decide for yourself. Like any new bike ride it 2 or 3 thousand miles and see what bugs YOU the most, and fix it if it needs it.

Griping about the FJR's throttle is like stuffing a rat motor in a camaro and then complaining that the rear tires won't stay hooked-up under hard acceleration.

Relax. Remember, chat forums like this magnify the "problems" way beyond what you yourself would likely experience. I challenge you to find any such where the bike of choice doesn't come across the same way. Been by the GL1800 list ever? K1200LT forum? KLR650.net? Hell, ADVrider.com? They're all the same: the good stuff isn't talked about nearly as loudly or as often as the bad.

Here's the good news: The '06 FJR is a wonderful machine just as delivered. Like all bikes, it may or may not fit you and your riding style perfectly but the gaps will be small and easy to bridge. All this stuff about the throttle is really down in the weeds percentage wise. I've done all the mods and they've all made things better but we're talking about going from a 95% perfect situation to a 99%. 95% would have been just fine and dandy had no fixes been available.

The only way I'd do that is if it was done in conjunction with plugging a PCIII in at the same time.
+1

Otherwise its a half-assed fix. Not even that, more like a quarter-assed fix.
Skooter, explanation please, need more info for you 1/2, no 1/4 fix comments. thanks
It was told to me by a research dude with DynoJet Research--you know, the guys that make the PCIII. He said, quote--"if you unplug the stock o2 that it would cure most of the issue, and once the power commander is out, then we can clean it up completely." Unquote. So I guess this guy is pretty much un-informed, huh skooter?
Wonder why they put the o2 sensor on the bike in the first place?

So combustion will be stoichimetric (meaning as complete as possible) and get the best possible mileage. After 32,000 miles I love my O2 sensor; CO, H2O, and SO2 out the exhaust pipe; and 40+ mpg. I love not having to worry about my ignition map, carbon build-up, and other variables in the whole engine department.

Emissions.

Have you seen where Yammie boasts the FJR meets some 2008 emissions requirement?

And don't listen to poor Iggie. Man just hasn't been the same since his blow-up *friend* got a puncture the Stop-N-Go kit just couldn't handle.

There isn't any "ignition map" to worry about, nor do I have any idea what "other variables" he is talking about. Carbon build up? Nah. I mean, have you ever heard of any consistent carbon build up problems on motorcycles with fuel injection and carburetors that don't have O2 sensors?

Wow, it just amazes me the moma Yamaha spends millions in R&D and unplugging this, or plug in that fixes everything. What ever happen to just go ride the f@cking bike. I think just about everyone over analyzes EVERYTHING on this bike. I think everyone (except me..I like mine the way it is) should sell this piece of ****. IMHO think every bike as its own little things that you as the rider has to adjust to.
Throw all that aftermarket crap in the *******, and go ride.... Just work the bike into doing what you want it to do... Okay, I feel better now.... Smitty
The comment above was from my friend Ebay Farklenator aka Smitty. (Like he doesn't change stuff on his bikes. Well, ok, he just changes the whole bike.)

Thank Matt....

No, I am not aware of any. I am also not aware of any motorcycle that has fuel injection and carburetors, every motorcycle that I am aware of has one or the other -- but not both. :yahoo:

Am I aware of any motorcycle that has carburetors, no O2 sensors, and consistent carbon build up problems? Yes, lots of them and Goldwings used to be the worst because most of their owners rode them like they were driving a car.

Wow, a completely new Never-Ending-Pointless-Thread!! And I thought they were all about tires and oil and such... ;)

The throttle still takes the same amount of degree's from idle to wide open. The stock throttle pulley is exponential in it's travel.
Idle = 0 degrees

25% Throttle rotation = 50% of wide open

50% Throttle rotation = 75% of wide open

75% Throttle rotation = 85% of wide open

100% Throttle rotation = 100% of wide open

Listen to me please!!! If , and I mean IF, this is whats actually happening this is bacwards of what should be happening. You should be twisting the grip more on the 06 to get the same amount of travel on a previous year bike!!! Think about it. The throttle is already touchy down low in stock trim on the Mark 1 FJR. Why would yamaha make it worse? They wouldn't on purpose. Either some or all of the 06 bikes must have this pully installed wrong.

You guys heard that right?

Early Yamaha PR alluded to the same thing that Ramb'in is saying. This is the whisper of foggy memories for which I can't locate the past Yamaha ads. Yamaha did promo the new ramped throttle. Can Fred turn the pulley upside down or backwards?
