Early Yamaha PR alluded to the same thing that Ramb'in is saying. This is the whisper of foggy memories for which I can't locate the past Yamaha ads. Yamaha did promo the new ramped throttle. Can Fred turn the pulley upside down or backwards?

From Yamaha's website, HERE

Revised throttle cable pulley gives lighter-action throttle pull.
Which is why I am baffled at this also. I mean, for a ligher-action throttle pull they should have made the pulley less progressive than the 03-5 models.

Is it possible that an engineer or in manufacturing somebody flipped the thing the wrong way? Or just a few FJRs were assembled ***-backwards?

Or is it possible that the 06 throttle cable pulley IS less progressive than the 03-05 models and the complaints stem from either a different root cause altogether, or just certain rider perceptions that even though improved, it still is too progressive?

After 20 years on gs 1100's my only difficulty with my feejer was learning to reduce my steering input to quit trying to run off the inside of turns. It took forever to retrain my instincts. Throttle response is a copmplete non-issue.

The throttle still takes the same amount of degree's from idle to wide open. The stock throttle pulley is exponential in it's travel.
Idle = 0 degrees

25% Throttle rotation = 50% of wide open

50% Throttle rotation = 75% of wide open

75% Throttle rotation = 85% of wide open

100% Throttle rotation = 100% of wide open

Listen to me please!!! If , and I mean IF, this is whats actually happening this is bacwards of what should be happening. You should be twisting the grip more on the 06 to get the same amount of travel on a previous year bike!!! Think about it. The throttle is already touchy down low in stock trim on the Mark 1 FJR. Why would yamaha make it worse? They wouldn't on purpose. Either some or all of the 06 bikes must have this pully installed wrong.

You guys heard that right?
Um...no. If you pull the tank and look at what's happening, you can see Fred is spot on. As you twist the grip, the trottle plates open faster initially then they do later in the throttle's travel from closed to open.

This makes perfect sense if you consider what Yamaha was trying to do: make the bike feel stronger off idle.

And where specifically, did you get this information?
True it's speculation at this point but it's an explanation that fits the facts. Also, that's how I interpret ...Revised throttle cable pulley gives lighter-action throttle pull... coupled with other's observations about various other vehicles that have incorporated this trick in the past.
