I have read in this post, and other posts, about people tightening all the engine left hand mounting bolts, and then the right hand bolts. This is one area where the manual is very specific, and it doesn't say do all the left bolts, and then the right. There is a very specific sequence in the manual as to which bolt to tighten and in what order. In fact, the spacer bolt takes a special tool to tighten properly.
I know...I did this in an effort to quell the vibrations. In my case, it didn't make a damn bit of difference. I would really be interested in hearing more about the Yamaha rep that said to do left first, then right. Seems to go against the manual, but if it helped, you can't argue with success.
Just to clarify those are talking only about the engine mounting bolts where the sliders mount up through the side panels. As when installing sliders to the bike, left hand side torqued first. Seems some had inadvertantly tightend the right side bolt first when installing their sliders and may have caused some possible vibration issues. Not talking about the complete sequence of bolting down the engine. PM. <>< :D

The ballance shafts are adjustable from outside and the proceedure is outlined in the service manual.
This is very interesting news to me. I have read about the ST1300 & the C14 having this feature. However, I didn’t realize the FJR also had this feature. Guess I need to do a little more :read: on the subject. By the way, thanks for pointing this out Ramblin Man.

Has anyone on the board actually performed the procedure? If yes, what kind of result did you get?

Thanks

I chased a very bad vibration on my 06 for awhile.Tried the motor mount, bar ends, grips, etc. But it remained bad enough to put my hands to sleep.I also had the familiar loose steering head issue-tightened it several times.I would notice the vibs would diminish some everytime I did-but not eliminate it.After the third stem tightening I figured something was wrong & removed the upper triple & found that in between the stem nuts was a rubber o ring which was preventing the locking collar to stay seated.I removed it & put it on top of both collars after tightening. The operation was fairly straightforward since I had had an ignition switch failure not too long prior. Its now a real joy to ride,w/ the only vibration right at 4k-but I can only tell by the R mirror images getting blurry-no more tingling hands or feet!I did not use a torque wrench, but I 'am an auto tech by trade & have worked on bikes for 30 yrs-so it was more of a feel thing.Maybe you guys could give it a try?
