Recently had to replace fork seals, until then only routine service (14K miles). Twice in the past few weeks I have been slowing for a stop or turn into a business and she shutdown, no warning. Dash went blank like the key was off! Cranked right up both times, ran fine rest of the ride both times. First thought is a loose connection or ground issue. Any suggestions?

Ignition recall performed upon receipt of the offical notice from Yamaha. FYI, only electrical farkles are PIAA lights up front and Hyperlites in the rear. I too suspect a grounding spider issue. Thanks for the info.

Lift the tank and have a look at the spider at the front left corner...IIRC, that's "S4" and often the offending part. If it shows any signs of melting, you've been bitten. If so, be sure to report it to the NHTSA.

Battery terminals is a good quick check, but with the prevelance of spider bites that's the first thing that always comes to my mind. If you do find a spider bite, make sure you report it HERE at safercar.gov whether you or a dealer fix the problem. Unless enough people report, a permanent fix won't ever happen.

Battery terminals are clean and tight. All around the battery looks in order. Will lift the tank and begin examining the spiders. Why is the tank always full when you have to do this?

Will make certain to report any issues found. Thanks for the advice.

Checked all the spiders and was indeed bitten! Left front corner under the tank (S4).....just like many of you. Did report the incident.

Now you really, really need to install an auxilliary ground harness. S4 will absolutely fail again, if you don't.
