Asked about this bike on the Ninja forum and got no response. Hopefully someone here can help. I'm considering one as opposed to a scooter for MPG. Does it require premium, or can you get by on regular? Also, any 'real' mileage figures? On the downside, they seem to be selling $500 to $700 over the MSRP.

Thanks, Jack.

According to CW mag, mileage is somewhere above 50, if you're easy on it.

As for the premium gas, don't know. Why don't you stop by your dealer and take a peek at the owner's manual?

Jack, The '08 250R runs just fine on regular grade unleaded. I only have 400 miles on my '08 and when I checked the mileage it was 50 mpg. It my improve as it breaks in. The older, pre- 08's get better mileage from what I've seen posted on the 250 ninja forums. It's a fun bike to ride. I ordered a 1 tooth larger sprocket on the front to bring the rpm's down a bit. When I get it installed I'll see if that helps mileage too. The price at my dealer was MSRP + TAX + Lic + 15.00 paperwork fee

hope this helps

Erik

I just sold my '04 250 last weekend. Real figgures were an honest 45-50 mpg on Kalifornia gas. I've heard of people getting upwards of 70mpg with well tuned machines being ridden easy. Top speed aprox 103 (error corrected) depends on your weight. No, they do not need premium, they are built for 87 octaine. Enjoy the ride B)

Ran the 2k3 sport tourer equivalent model (not available in the US) with a double bubble windshield on it. Got 68 mpg easy. I'm a fat b*stard too - max speed 95 mph for me. I'd be questioning how you're riding it if you only got 50 mpg since even flogging it on the track I still got pretty awesome milage, around the 45 mpg mark.

Easy answer. Kalifornia gas :dribble:

That and I enjoyed the rev limiter :p

Years ago, S.O. toured on the previous generation 250 Ninja -- the 'white one', can't remember the year -- and it was a great bike, too. Anyway, IIRC, it pretty consistantly got around 70 mpg. I do remember it going over 300 miles on a tankfull.

I had a Gen I Concours and we were camping at T.W.O. when, around the campfire, someone asked how far we could go on a tank of gas. I said: "I haven't actually tried it, but I think we could get over 300 miles?"

Well, as luck would have it, the very next day found us on the Natches Trace and not paying attention to miles travelled and fuel when one of us went on reserve. Now, you just can't stop at a gas station on the Natches Trace -- you need to know where to get off (and, which direction to go) to find gas.

Long story, short -- we both went over 300 miles.

Concours held over 7 gal. -- 250 Ninja, over 4.

You're welcome.

my g/f is riding the new '08 and it does just fine on regular gas. Mileage is not as good as she was quoted, but it is in the 50's as others have said here.

FUN bike, I'd love one for around town commuting

Thanks for the good insights. I may reluctantly sell my '04 V-Max if I decide to go with the baby Ninja. Just wanted to get a feel for the '08 before taking the next step. It would be used for running around town and I would still have the FJR for trips etc.

Jack.
