If you happened to find a brand new 09 still sitting on a showroom floor. How would you establish its value? I would imagine the discussion would extend to 10's as well and there are alot of them around.

Joe

To establish a value I would hop on the sucker and take it for a ride. If it puts great big old grin on your face then make them an offer you can live with.

I know not the answer you are looking for. But I have not seen a good way figure that out. If it were me I would try to figure out what a low mileage 09's

was going for and add what new is worth to you. Probably $600 to $1000 for me personally.

In 2010 I was looking for a new 08. The ones I found the dealers would not lower the price much. Wound up getting a 09 for 12.3K OTD

www.nadaguides.com/Motorcycles says there is a $300 difference between a new 11 and a new 10 for what that is worth.

Hope someone has a good method for this.

There are many factors involved in this scenario.

1) How much cash is burning a hole in your pocket.

2) What's your credit score?

3) Are you sick and tired of riding the bike you own?

4) Do you need a bike that would suit a better purpose of why you want to ride more.

And so on And so on.

If you have fallen in love with it's looks, Performance and purpose you will throw down the cash at what the dealers willing to sell.

If your on the fence and not sure you will walk away and the next time you visit the dealer it will be gone.

Good Luck,

Dave

...pretty well sums it up. Comparing *new* left over bikes to NADA or KBB used prices does nothing. Take a look at what's out there and figure out how much additional a new unmolested bike is worth to you. Keep in mind that the minute you leave the showroom your *new* bike just dropped to market value.

Have fun!

I guess I'm pretty cheap. I have a REAL hard time paying for that first block. :dribble: :dribble:

Just my $.02 worth... (and that's about what it IS worth)

Leftover or not:

1. Does it come with a warranty or was this a dealer sell-off - nasty surprises may await if you don't verify this.

2. It is only new until you title it and then it is immediately 4 years old

3. Rubber and fluids need to be immediately replaced (maybe not the tires, mind you since there should not have been 3 years of UV exposure, which is the rubber-killer)

4. Has it been sitting in a showroom? Or has it been crated the whole time?

5. See point 2 again.

If the dealer won't give you a substantial reduction, you might as well go elsewhere and buy a brand new '12, '11 or '10 for the same money - they are the same bike except, apparently for some minor wiring harness changes . . . . . note that recalls may need to be performed on any '09 or '11 you may purchase.

I was shopping around this year and came across a left over 10. Dealer wouldn't move much on price, still wanted $13k.

Found a used 09 with 1300 miles on it and got it for just over $10k. The buying new to me didn't warrant over $2500 extra, plus I like black.

I really like the blacked out black as well - that is the configuration of my Nighthawk. After speaking to the dealer they are willing to move on price. The initial quote was laughable at 14+. I told them I could get a '10 for less why would I do that. That was the point that they were more willing to move. I then did some number crunching and am moving in a different direction. I have my eye on an 06 for just under 7 with some farkles, G2, PCIII, new rubber, all recalls done and only a couple thousand miles. Now I need to decide if I want to make payments for a few months or stick to my guns and buy toys with cash.

Thanks for the input I appreciate it.

Joe

Dealers don't typically offer good deals. In 2010 I bought an almost perfect 2009 from a Craig's list advertisemet, frame sliders, handle bar extenders, tank protector, YES warranty until 2013...$8500. Stay away from dealers and look for the bargains. I love my FJR and I've put over 15,000 miles on it and plan many more.

Cheers Bill

Thanks Bill great advice. I have been talked off the edge for now. Back into saving mode. This confirms that the best time to buy a used fjr is during those darn cold winter months. I will get some cash together and wait for the right deal.

Joe

during those darn cold winter months.

One problem with buying in the winter is the best deal may be in Minnesota.

I considered buying a bike that was a 1000 miles away last winter. After crunching

the numbers including flight, hotels, food and gas it just did not add up to a savings.

Not to mention the time off work.

Certainly your experience may differ but I find when I try to put money away over a long

period of time. Something will happen that will suck up that money. New heater, roof,

kid needs braces something. Still I look for a good deal but waiting for the best deal...

10 years down the road you really aren't going to give a damn.

Good Luck

I bought my new 2009 in February of this year. OTD for $12,200. Haven't bought the YES warranty yet. Will decide prior to February 2012.

Average retail now on NADA is $11,600. I personally wouldn't pay more than that for a new one now. I've seen some pretty screaming deals on this forum lately on 2008 thru 2010 Feegers. If I were you I would work the used market. I kinda wish I had used my own advice back in February. Maybe I could have saved some money. I most likely would have saved some farkle money as a lot of these bikes are nicely farkled.

My local dealer has a brand new '10 on the floor and told me I could have it for $12000, but here in Wyoming, our riding season is just about to come to a screeching halt, so he may be a bit more motivated than your dealer. If you don't buy it, let me know where it is and what the price is as I really prefer the black...but I'm not sure I'd go all the way to Texas or pay the shipping just for black. But still, I'm curious...and I've done crazier things to get the bike I wanted.

you input how many miles are on the bike and the price on output includes that in the formula...location also is taken into consideration

and it's warm year round in South Looziana...if you find something anywhere around here, I will check it out and give you a report...then I offer to pick you up from the Airport, stay at my home a day or two as needed, we'll go over the bike again thoroughly, and I'll send you on your way home riding along a few hundred miles till all is good.

It looks like I am going in a different direction now. The new 09 was at a Yamaha dealer in Stillwater, OK. We briefly discussed price - I threw a number of 10k or 9500 out and they didn't seem unwilling to consider that. I do not know if that is OTD. They may slap a bunch of dealer charges on top. I am likely going for an 06 with very few miles on it, a PCIII and the G2 throttle tube on it. That along with new tires and fresh fluids for 6k.

I started to go down to Stillwater when I was in the market and then my dealer in Wichita finally decided he didn't want to lose another customer to an Oklahoma dealer. Stillwater seems to list a lot of over-stock on Cycletrader. Is it a pretty big dealership?

When I was shopping, I did a lot of talking with the owner of Altus Motorsports in Altus, OK. He was a pretty good guy who seemed highly motivated to sell a bike.

I have never been to the dealership I also just noticed them posting on cycletrader.
