It was a very nice day here in Southwest Idaho Saturday afternoon. I went into the office at 6:30 am to try to finish up some stuff and wanted to leave at about noon. Once I got home, I donned my riding pants and jacket, grabbed my new Shoei Quest and headed for my plugged in new bike to take it out on it's maiden spin. The odometer read 0.7 miles. The ambient air temperature was 37 degrees with little to no wind. Out of the barn and off I go.

WOW. What a sweet machine; quiet, stable, easy to turn, ggrreeaatt brakes and the unbelievable amount of acceleration. I held back, keeping in mind this is the first time out and the object was to start the break in. Did I mention the 37 degrees? After what seemed to be a short amount of time the body was getting chilled and I headed back. WOW. This is the nicest bike I have ever owned.

585 miles to go and then she's broken in. Now what about this 600 mile service?

Regards,

-Paul

Don't baby it. Break it in the way you intend to ride it. The service intervals are pretty straight forward in the manual. These bikes are great, huh?

How very cool! (Pun intended.)

There's nothing like going through the break-in process.

You'll know you have "the disease" when every time you see your bike in the garage (or barn) your heart smiles! :)

I've had mine since Sept. '04 and.... "Hi. My name is Mike and I'm and FJR-oholic."

600 miles? Lookie here. Though my guess is that most dealers do a quick visual and changes the oil and filter. Some might perform a Throttle Body Synch.

I got this listing from this website: https://www.fjr1300.info/ and clicked on "Maintenance".

There are other helpful websites listed in the New Member intro and at the bottom of this thread: FJR OEM Parts and Farkle Sources

Piles of snow around the driveway... 25 degrees F out... snow and ice on the roads... My lonely bike all wrapped up in the garage.... *sigh*

Kite,

Congrats on your New Machine! It is hard to believe how Good this bike is and when you try to explain it ...they think you are lying !!!

Only until you get that first ride.... you then KNOW we are not lying or on drugs.

Enjoy your Silver Bullett as I do Mine (-7yrs) and Many Happy Miles and Smiles to Ya!

Congrats on the new bike, you will have way too much fun. I purchased a heated vest about a month ago. If you're gonna make a habit of riding in 37º or lower temps, you might consider one! They make life a whole lot better........... and warmer too! Just the first of many farkles to come........

Kite,

You can pretty much do this yourself. Change the oil & Yamaha filter...other Misc. checks. If you do it Yourself, Keep a Log & Receipts in case you need to back a Proper Service History with any Future Warranty Problems.

If it was me, and I have been through this many times, Use a Yamaha Filter at least during your Warranty And/Or YES period. Service really keys in on Other Non-Yamaha Filters and will use this to Deny a Claim... Legit or Not.

If you don't have the YES Extended 4 Year Warranty, you have up to a year to get it and the Best Value place to get it is:

D&H Cycle, 18115 US Hwy 31, Cullman, AL 35058, 256-739-1840, 888-553-3311 for $389. A Super Warranty Plan Backed by Yamaha and not a 2nd Flakey Party.

Good Luck with your 1st Service done by You or the Dealership!

A Haiku for you

The snow outside sucks

I'm happy for your new bike

But the snow still sucks

I understand...I picked my 2010 one up Friday before last and it's just been sitting in the garage until today. It was sunny and in the low 60's so I was albe to bet it out and put about 150 miles on it.

Gary

I'm jealous. My bike has 1 mile on it and thats only cause I ran it on its center stand. We had amazing weather here Friday and the roads were all clear, but my bike was in pieces. Now I got it back together and its -25C outside and a ton of fresh snow on the ground. I just can't catch a break.

I can't wait for my first 15 miles.

I remember those early miles..

Such a solid platform..

Nearly 150k later, 1 deer strike later, and soo many memories later,

the FJR simply fires up and runs.

A GREAT bike that can handle many hours of use/abuse and put miles and smiles on your face.

I look at mine everytime I go out into the garage. I don't even put the car in there anymore. It ruins the ambience... please cue the Barry White music

I read the post and said to myself, Why stop after just fifteen miles? Yea 37 degrees but still?

Hope the weather gets better for you, I'm thinking you want more! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
