RESERVATIONS! you may have to have reservations just to drive into a national park now. My Evans for example. Probably the same for most popular parks or attractions. And forget about finding a first come first served camp site after 10:30 am in a popular are. At least that’s what we saw May 16 through June 7. SC to southern UT to Lake Superior to SC.

Something I wish had had heard of before the last trip:

Have a plan for and means of protecting the important parts when parking the bike in a sandstorm. I wish I had thought to cover the gas cap and windshield tracks.

Great suggestions.  I just remembered one more thing, since I am leaving for a short U.P. ride in a week.  Bring a bike cover.  Parking under trees is sometimes unavoidable, and tree sap and/or pine tar is a real ***** to remove without resorting to a hammer and chisel.

We experienced a sap storm too. Glad it wasn’t before the sandstorm.

yes i was taking both sets of keys
Don’t take both sets of original keys, in fact you shouldn’t be running with at all with your original keys. Have several copies made and keep the originals locked up in a safe place at home. Keep them fresh.

I run with one key, by itself on a small lightweight leather fob, and another spare copy tucked in my wallet - just in case. The weight of anything other than a small key fob attached to your ignition key will tend to wear out the lock set prematurely, and will scratch up the area around the keyhole.

Also, carry at least $5 worth of quarters in your toiletries bag, for laundry machines, pay showers.  And more quarters in your riding outfit, for emergencies, like pay toilets; along with a small roll of toilet paper –

all great suggestions, I got back last Saturday and one thing I learned was sunscreen. Who would have thought with all that gear on I would need sunscreen? Well my nose got burned through the helmet visor. $17 at a gas station was a deal after that....LOL

It was great, except through the Mojave desert where we saw temps of 116-118 degrees with one time I saw 122 degrees on the dash! We went to Pikes peak, grand canyon, Moab Utah, Hoover Dam, rode the Pacific coast highway up to Santa Cruz, Bonneville slat flats, and Bailey Yard in Nebraska. Ill post some pictures when I get them off my phone.

Never had an issue with face burn wearing a full-face helmet.  Just a bit on the back of my neck when wearing my mesh jacket and wrists with short mesh gloves.
My surprise on my first long trip was a bad sunburn in the little triangle spot by my thumb in my mesh gloves on each hand. It was like somebody burned me with a tiny iron.
