My 04 was a ticker. You probably wouldn't know it if it wasn't for this forum. A little ticky on the #1 cylinder. It still went like hell and didn't suffer from compression loss but it would blow a little smoke when WOT and it would use some oil. I would not get another Gen1, personally.

I ran the VIN number at the local dealer and the bike had the TPS sensor work done in 2008. They have it listed for the Trunk recall which seems to be the metal plate they install under the factory top box - this bike does not have the factory top box. Nothing about valve replacement etc.. for ticker problems so she is probably good to go.

Now I just see a 2006 listed in the local C-list and am thinking on waiting until the first of the year or spring and trying a Gen 2 out before I commit. Sounds like lots of good FJR's will be available due to trade-in's for the hot 2014 bikes. I did sit on a 2006 once, started the engine but never test rode it so I have nothing to compare.

For motorcycles, if Washington is anything like Ohio, NOW is the time to buy. Great deals to be had anyplace you look. Prices will usually escalate in the spring.

You will love the FJR! I came from an SV1000S and the only thing I miss is that sweet V-twin rumble.

3 months ago I decided on a Gen 1 because I loved the color and couldn't pass up a spotless 4300 mile bike for $6000. The Gen 2 does have better heat management and was my original choice.

You won't go wrong either way.
