Can someone tell me the best Maintenance Manual for the 2005 FJR1300? I'm sure it's pinned somewhere is this site but I can't seem to find it.

User manual or service manual? The latter is one you have to purchase and is not on the forum. Check #9 of the forum guidelines for a link. It's indispensable IMO.

The Factory Service Manual from Yamaha. The only legal manual is the paper version printed by Yamaha. All other digital copies are copy right violations (illegal reproductions). There are no Clymbers, Chilton, Haynes type manuals, only the Yamaha© manual.

I was not asking for a link to an "illegal site" for an online PDF doc. for free. I am willing to pay for a service manual but just not the $100 the yamaha dealer is asking. That is rediculous. I realize a lot of time and effort has gone in to making these but come on....are you kidding me? How many do you have to sell at $100 to make a profit?

After doing some searching, it appears that Clymbers, Haynes ect. does not print anything for this bike. Since those are sold in cycle shops, I highly doubt they are "illegal."

My guess is there are sites out there that you can get excellent service manuals for $50 or less online but nobody wants to talk about them because they may ( ? ) violate copyright laws right? OK. I see how it is.

I won't ask anymore here.

Ignacio,

I don't see 9 rules in this forum, only 2 if you look in the "Terms and Rules" section.

I really am not trying to piss anybody off. Just being practical.

Sounds like you have an opportunity to make a bunch of money if you think you can do it better or cheaper!

Click on the Forum Guidlines link towards the top right...right next to View New Content. Any more obvious and it would bite you in the ass. 9...not 2.

Sorry, I was looking in the "Terms and RULES" section. Not the "GUIDELINES" section. This should probably be in the "rules" section and not the "guidelines" section.

Ignacio,

I'm not saying I could do it cheaper. I'm saying someone who cares probably already has done so. I'm guessing Yamaha makes a pretty good profit margin or they would not be in business.

Again, I'm not trying to start an argument. I'm done asking about this. I'll look elsewhere.

And these are the answers that are beginning (continuing) to piss people off. I don't get why some of the noobs around here have to be such paper skinned smart-asses.

Cerebus, you started with a pretty valid question, but one that would have been answered had you read the Forum Guidelines you were asked to read when you signed up.

Then, Iggy gives you a link to your answer, and someone else helps out by telling you that other than the Yamaha Manual, there are no legal copies out there. When I had my KLR, I had a Clymer manual; however, none of those guys have done one for an FJR so there are only Yamaha manuals and illegal PDF manuals. No one is saying that Clymer or Haynes manuals are illegal. They are just not available for this bike.

So, in response to the valid answers you for you get your mangina in a huff and threaten no not ask anymore questions. Seriously...Don't. If you're too self involved or too stupid to read the rules when you signed up, and such a whiner that any answer besides exactly what you wanted to hear was gonna hurt your feelings, then feel free to pack your shit and get out.

If this was just some outburst because your wife didn't make your Mac and Cheese exactly how you want, and you took it out on the wrong people, then feel free to stick around and try again.

Sheesh.

If it makes any of you feel any better about the cost of the FJR manual, the Honda ST1300 manual is more $$$. I did not want to buy a pirate copy so I went to my Honda/Yamaha dealership for my ST manual. $187.00 they said. I decided I did not need it and thanked them for their time. They knew I had bought the FJR there and that the FJR and the ST were both there frequently for tire/service/parts. They knocked the price down, way down for me. $187 for a book that looks like the "S" volume of the Encyclopedia Brittanica.

OK. I appologize to those that I have offended with my harsh response. If I had read ( or remember reading ) the guidlines when I joined a year ago, I would not have asked the original question in the 1st place. My fault.

What I was hoping for as a response to my initial post was this...

" Here is a hyperlink to a Service Manual that has just as much detail as the original Yamaha Manual but 1/3 of the cost "

I would say the major reason people get Service Manuals is so they can save money by doing the work themselves. This follows on the lines of me asking about a better deal on a service manual.

I do value the input of everybody on this site. I read a lot of posts but don't post much, mostly because I have 6 yrs. street bike experience and feel that my input on subjects would not be as valueable as those with 20+ yrs exp.

I am still planing on sticking around but I won't be argumentitive in my responses anymore.

Once again, sorry for the harsh words.

1. There are no legally distributed electronic service manuals to end users via the © holder, Yamaha.

2. Electronic versions to non-dealers are © of Yamaha's IP.

3. It's been a long-held rule (#9) that linking to the sale locations or free download location of same is against the policy of this forum and will result in a warning at the least and additional action after that if so decided by the owner/admins of the forum.

The link to these rules is sent everyone when they sign up and linked from the home page each time anyone visits (Forum Guidelines).

Paper service manuals from Yamaha are available used from other users (on occasion) and typically posted in the classifieds here or on other FJR forums. FJR Goodies used to sell the Yamaha manual for under $100. Given the $14K of the bike and the savings of doing your own services over the life of the bike, $100 seems like an inconsequential investment (half the cost of 1 tire).

I got mine from FJRGoodies.com back in the day

I can almost guarantee that if a legal less expensive copy of the manual was available somewhere, we woulda pointed you right to it. I don't get why Clymer or Haynes hasn't stepped up, but they haven't. So, Yahama treats it like a college biology text book and charges too much for what they provide. However, Bounce is right. The book pays for itself the first time you do your own service.

Keep an eye out in the classifieds. I got a used 2006 manual for my '07 and so far it has been fine. A couple subtle differences, but nothing that can't be worked around. If you can wait for one to come available it'll definitely be cheaper.

Good luck.

Ya, I'll most likely just pay the money for Yamaha manual. Looking back, I've spent $100 in more fooling ways in the past.

Set up a search on Ebay that will notify you when one is posted for sale.

I got one for my 08 in almost new condition for $20.

I'm glad this post was started and appears to be answered - gr8 job by all. While I have over 20yrs of riding exp, I still find exp here for my lack of tech exp. Again thanks all.

I got a used one on fleabay for about half the cost of a new one.

Not perfect but not missing any pages either.

Starting to look on e-bay. Thanks for the suggestion! Trying to filter out PDF ( most likely someone photocopying the manual )or CD vs. the actual Yamaha hard copy itself.
