  1. Bike not ridden for two weeks
  2. Two Bars on Fuel Gauge
  3. Initially, bike cranked but didn't start...several attempts battery strong
  4. Came inside to search posts, saw "Cold Stop and WFO" posts
  5. Did not stop bike cold, but went to try anyway
  6. WFO + crank, no love
  7. Now what?

I also put bike on center stand and raised side stand just in case...bike in Neutral (no gear indication in selector window, rear wheel spins)...will only crank when hold clutch (design feature).

Now on Battery Tender as I've cranked it down a bit.

Hopefully I'll get some suggestions before it fully charges.

TIA Chuck

No gear indication points to the gear switch in the transmission. The neutral switch is part of that. There's a switch for each gear and one for neutral, which are grounded as their particular gear is selected. I don't know where the part is physically, but wiring to that is where to start looking.

Thanks...I think "no gear indication" just means the bike is in Neutral. The green light is on...

I just went out and did the WFO procedure again eventhough the battery is a little weak...it did cough the first time I tried, so that's more than I've experienced earlier today.

I've been reading this post: Won't Start which is exactly the kinda problem I'm having except I've got the electric clutch bike (if that matters).

Still haven't ruled out flooding, weak battery or bad plugs and I probably need to check the plugs soon. I'll get the battery recharged first and give it one more go before lifting the tank.

Thanks for your message. Please keep them coming.

My AE got wonky once and it ended up being the battery. It was early in the battery's life, so it took me awhile to actually believe it. However, my symptoms were such that it made lots of clicking sounds but no cranking. Yours sounds different symptom wise. If you left the key on for anytime at all though, take a hard look at it.

Thanks Beamer...lots of cranking and no clicking...battery is doing what it can...need some fire in the hole...I just ordered new plugs, but will be a few days...rats!

I've got an AE and it did much like what you've described. It did it after a long, hard multi-day ride and then put up for a couple of weeks. Tried the WOT thing and it FINALLY worked, coughed a bit like yours first. Almost took it to the dealer but kept trying. Wait until tomorrow so the battery is in really good shape then hold the throttle all the way open and go for it. Don't know how long you can crank it before you start overheating the starter, I think I held mine on for two minutes on, five minutes off but I think it started on the third try

My AE refused to start once. It would crank over, but no fire. Had it towed to my dealership. They called the next day and said it fired right up. WTF?? Never happened again and I never did figure that one out.

Thanks Bwana...the charger is on and I just went out again and did the WOT and no love...I'm going to take your suggestion and give it FULL Charge and then "two minutes on" as you suggest. Waiting should also evaporate excess fuel fouling if this is a contributory problem.

My circumstance is just like yours: long, hard multi-day ride and then put up for a couple of weeks...

I'm being lazy and not checking the plugs until I get some new ones in the mail (order earlier today). I got Iridium CR8EIX ordered instead of the OEM CR8E.

BTW, if you hit the Kill Switch and try to start button the engine doesn't turn over. This is NOT the problem, unfortunately.

Thanks for everyones ideas!

Bwana - just like you said...

Got back from the movies, battery almost fully charged, held WOT and cranked until I became afraid to go further...tried again with no throttle and it seemed like it was trying to engage, then I gave it WTO again and it caught...

Tomorrow when the battery is fully charged again I'll try and start normally and report back.

Thanks for everyone's ideas. I'd have an empty pocket without FJRForum.
