From a H-D Press Release:

Harley-Davidson will provide those who have served their country the chance to customize their motorcycle with details honoring their military service with the 2007 Patriot Special Edition program. These specially-decorated Harley-Davidson models will be sold only to active duty U.S. military service men and women, veterans and immediate family members of both those categories.

“Harley-Davidson is proud of the unique bond and heritage we have with the military going as far back as 1916,” said Jim McCaslin, President and Chief Operating Officer, Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “The Patriot Special Edition is simply a way to help honor those who have served. These are customized motorcycles for very special members of the Harley-Davidson family.”

The Patriot Special Edition program will be available on 12 different 2007 Harley-Davidson models (see list below) that can be customized to one of these participating military branches: U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy.

Customers will receive a personal letter of appreciation and special-edition Harley-Davidson Challenge Coin made by the Franklin Mint.

Hmmm, now that sounds pretty cool! Maybe the garage can fit a USN Fatboy if the wife finally decides whether she's gonna be a rider or stick w/ passenger status. <_<

Jeepers a coin from the Franklin Mint! Who could pass on that??

Seriously though, that military connection has been part of their marketing strategy for decades. Gotta hand it to HD, they sure know how to sell stuff. Now if they'd get real with their pricing I might just think about a USMC Fatboy..

FatBoy is a take on the two atomic bombs dropped on Japan ! Gotta give it to HD to think of ways to keep selling the same stuff ! Great marketing team for sure....

Another marketing crappola from harley. If they really wanted to support the troops, past and present, and law enforcement, don't just build a bike "for us" how about some f---ing price breaks. It is just such crap and sooo many people fall for it and ride those over priced barges. Sorry I had to get if off my chest. Everett

If you went thru the HD parts dept you would find more japanese and Asian Pacific parts than American ones - That's the American dream hit with the jap torpedo.....

I don't know if it is still the case, but when I was in the USAF, Harley Davidson made a deal with AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Service...i think  ), Anyway, AAFES sells HD's to troops. You can buy it overseas and have it waiting for you when you arrive back in the states. They usually constituted about 22% off of MSRP which was good at the time because then HD's were selling out so fast they were charging premiums at the dealerships. I don't really like their product, but I'll give them credit where its due.

Oh, Sprint paid for long distance calls between our troops and their families during the Gulf War.

There are number of examples of companies helping out without really getting mention.
