Here's my LATE ride report 'cuz I headed south out of Morro instead of back home to Sactown. First, great weekend with old(er) and new friends, many familiar names from the forum who turned out to be great folks--too many to list, but special thanks to some of the more "locals" who organized everything, provided things like firewood, seating, and food, and led local rides: viz. the dcarvers, the Highlanders, and Kaunajawdge (and my apologies to any others in this category I omitted).

I thought I'd forgotten my camera and was cheesed off about that, but thanks to all who posted the pics here. The damn camera turned up in Simi Valley in a hidden pocket , so here's some of what I saw for the rest of my ride.

There were many interesting sights in Simi Valley. Here's one I saw at a concert in the park:

Here's another (AF One, inside the Reagan Library):

Riding into Ojai, I met up with an 08 FJR and this guy, who escorted me right to the door of Bill Meyer Saddles. Thanks, John. You said you were on the forum, but I can't find you listed. Sign up. (I think I'll be keeping my beard its current length--no offense)

Talked to the folks here about getting my new seat made. My COMFORTABLE new seat. There were 3 guys outside waiting on their own new saddles--two FJRs and a Beemer.

IMG_0164.jpg

I asked to have her take the measurements for my seat.

Then it was up Hwy 33 through the gorgeous Ojai Valley

At Pine Summit (I think), I thought this looked like a good place to eat my deli sandwich from Von's.

IMG_0173.jpg

It was, but the 6 mile road to it made the Nacimiento-Ferguson road look like a 4-lane freeway. But it was gorgeous.

I took this shot as an homage to Old Michael. At the time, I didn't realize that these were the last mating pair of an endangered species, but it was worth it.

Does anyone know what this stuff is?

IMG_0180.jpg

Just south of the middle of nowhere, I needed some gas. We might as well all start getting used to this sight:

Then it was back to Morro Bay and ALL the way up the coast on Hwy 1, through the smoke of numerous fires and directly into the setting sun much of the way. Too many miles for one day, IMO, but a good week.

I want to thank all the folks that made this trip so much fun, that includes everyone there.

The ride down the coast with Mike, Mike, Mike and myself (Mike), Steve and Cindy, Walt, and the ever delightful Hans, was more than I could have hoped for. Good food, good friends, great riders.

Thanks George for leading the way home back up the coast, sorry I had to keep going north. (wedding to attend)

Thanks for the great weekend.

Mike and Terri.

PS I have an hour of video from the trip and no skills to get it on the internet. Sorry.

I left Oregon 7/1 and rode over to 395, down through Reno and Carson City, then over the Tioga Pass.

You flatlanders should do whatever it takes and go see Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks.

I did a quick run through Yosemite Valley, then had to make a detour to Fresno to pay for my procrastination.

I hadn't replaced my TPS yet, and the bike started cutting out and dying on part throttle.

Luckily I found a dealer, (Clawson), that had a TPS, and they had it replaced before I finished lunch.

I headed back up the Sierras and stayed in a cabin in Sequoia. Nightime temp was 35; no camping for me!

I showed up in Morro Bay Friday afternoon and met a bunch of great people. It was nice to put faces to so many forum names,

although, frankly, some faces should have remained anonymous. (I'm not talking about you Fairlaner!)

It was nice of them to let an Oregonian interloper join the party.

Much appreciation goes to Highlander and Dianne for setting this up; D and Mrs. Carver for providing food two nights; Harley D. Dog for providing security; Fairlainer for ordering in pizza(Somehow with all the people eating, he ended up about $60 short? Pay up people! Richard needs his cigar money. I hope Highlander didn't get short-changed on the campsite fee.)

It was windy and a little cold, but Kuwann- Kwann- George provided a huge pile of firewood.

Thanks again for a great gathering.

395 just after my only critter close encounter. A coyote ran right in front of me.

Great ride reports and pictures, everyone! I was a low life and took zero pix. Old Michael, especially enjoyed your fotos.

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing old friends and making new friends too. Great to see the Sacramento contingent; note to self, I need to spend more time with ya'll in your neck of the woods. And what about old NightShine and the mini tiltin' Hilton?

The Doberman ride was fun! I especially liked it when, at only 1/2 way through the ride, ol' Fairlaner started complaining about some part of his body hurting.. what was the term? Oh, yeah, "bloody hell, my fooking bum hurts!" At least, that's what I recall. Then I promised the road would be smooth, with high speed sweepers, knowing all the time more goat trail lay ahead! ha ha..

Many thanks to Highlander for scoring the campground; no easy feat. I've never been with a better group of folks than on the FJR forum. And to KwanaJawdge sp? for bringing Firewood - think about it, firewood is NEEDED when camping; and for instigating the route planning and leading a nice ride.

BTW - You folks certainly are consumers. I mean to tell yah, by the time I loaded up all the extra Coca Cola, beer, booze, chips, donuts etc, I don't need to shop this week. :D

Also - somebody left a red folding chair. If you want it, you have to ride back to the Hondarosa to get it... :bleh:

Same thing for a really cool 'cooler bag'...

Well, enough rambling; had a great time; road some bitchen roads, the stupid idiot in the cheap ass sports car missed me and everyone else too, ate like a King and got to hang with cool folks. Just doesn't get any better than this, really.

Is time for 2009 yet? :yahoo:

This is dodder, also known as witches' hair. It's all over the hiking trails in LA and Orange County. It's a parasite that has no chlorophyll, so its root system attacks a host shrub (usually laurel sumac) to get all of the water and nutrients it needs.

Or, as Old Michael said, it's ass cheese...

EXCUSE ME!?!?!? :dribble:

Uhm....fellow riders, there isn't a "free lunch" at these gatherings. It is expected that everyone chip in. I ASSUMED everyone asked and tossed a few ducats Richard's way. And Dave's.

I asked, but was told "It's covered, don't worry about it", but not by Richard. I guess I asked the wrong person. Hopefully, he at least got some "dessert M&M's".

I thought Rayban was going to be there? If he went, I don't remember seeing him....

Once in a while you can actually get a straight answer to a question here on the FJRF. Thanks Brian. And the REST of you. . . sheesh. Ass Cheese indeed. I was SURE it probably wasn't ass cheese!

". . . I've never been with a better group of folks than on the FJR forum.
Darn right Don. To quote Fred Willard, who played the mayor of a little town in Washington in the movie Roxanne, "I'd rather be with you people right here than the FINEST PEOPLE IN THE WHOLE WORLD." And by Golly, so would I.

What's with this rather/than silliness?

Compelling evidence more than suggests that FJR owners are . . . .

..... impulsive drinkers

..... lazy to non-FJR activity's

..... use work resources to use FJRForum.com

..... cheap escapes

..... very photo genetic with fingers

..... willing to help other FJR owners in need of advise (even if it is slightly twisted)

..... down right strange, or all normal and the rest of the world is strange. (you decide)

.... to lazy to think..........

Very cool pics. Looks like a blast! I'll have to make a ride with your clan sometime.
OUR Clan??????

You are in California, so you're part of THE clan (Gathering of the Clan=NorCal/SoCal get togethers). Heck, its really about the FJR Clan. :yahoo:

If you notice, there was an OR rider visiting this year.
