Taller windsheild, fatter grips, less throttle spring pull, no cam on the throttle setup, heated grips, cruise control, gps, sat. radio, radar detector, cb, volt meter, bigger numbers on the speedo dial, bigger blinker indicators, wireless tire pressure indicators, self repairing Avon tires, louder horn, fork brace, wilbers suspension front and rear, Russel seating, front and rear back rest, axul. rear fuel tank, (IBA Spec.), hydration canister and swivel bite valve, choice of cast alum. luggage rack, high power aux. running lights, sea fuse block, alum. dash for farkles, windshield on/off detac. switch, spot mirrors, hand guards, side case cover, highway pegs, extended drop pegs front and rear, 3 aux. power plugs, front and rear, fused, slidders, and auto deploy kickstand with self-locking device, and pullback adjustable handlebars......did I miss anything? While I would like less wt, the only way that could be done is by a major redesign=$$$=raise the price even more to pay for the R+D and new tooling. A comfortable, supportive long range saddle SHOULD be standard. The saddle on my '06 is marginal, IMO, and starts "biting" me after an hour or so....unacceptable for this type of bike. A bit more windshield could be helpful, as under certain riding conditions this shield is marginal. The power outlet under a cover is ludicrous. One more change: drop the windshield retract every time the engine is turned off; my '04 ST 1300 beat my FJRs there: windshield stayed put.

Overall tho, my '06 is a significant improvement from my hot '03 which cooked me at air temps of 80F or above. Given how much I like my '06 I have no plans to get anything else at this point; so while she's not perfect she is within sight of it! DFO :D

With as many people riding these days.

I would look at creating the most safe and dependable motorcycle line out there.

With the best warranty on the market.

Then have the factory reps, stand behind it 200% and never blame the customer on trumped up accusations.

I like the idea of different levels of amenities, including but not limited to HP and Transmission options. Suspension, ergonomics, and storage.

Have one that is made for pure, raw, sport touring, all the way up to a model made for 2 up, long distance relaxed touring.

Start the bike off at about $7500. And build up from there.

I am talking only an FJR style model. The reason we gravitate to this type of bike is light weight, good handling, and the potential to ride it on long trips, to some of the best twisties in the world.

The big touring bikes are just 2 wheel cars. If by some chance you drop a, say BMW LT( light truck) it isn't a simple one man lift.

Too bad this isn't a real questionnaire that Yamaha would use. It would be great to have a company like this really listen and respond to the people who use their products.

I know for fact that Harley Davidson will call you if you write a letter to them. They have dialog with their customers.

Au contrere, mon ami! Yamaha does listen and does read the various websites, hence the changes in the NewGen FJRs ('06-'07).

They've addressed the heat issue via a fairing redesign, given adjustable handlebars and seat, and narrowed the width measured at the panniers.

Is it a perfect bike? Nope! Is it a great platform on which owners can improve, personalize, and modify to suit their own needs and desires? IMO, yep.

I would hope Yamaha will addres the "twitchy throttle" issue on the next iteration but resist adding every feature from the wish list. A cruise control would be nice, but not everyone wants or needs one. Once a manufacturer begins to add items, where do they stop? And all of this on a narrow-niche motorcycle (compared to how many FZs, R-1s, R-6s and cruisers are sold).

Before long, the price would be raised to a point that could keep those who would buy the basic platform and modify as their budget allows from being able to afford an FJR.

Color Choice or BLUE, 6th gear, bring back the winged look on the side...04 and 05 have, and the instrument cluster. I like the new back seat!

 
The split personality of the FJR is what makes it popular. I often describe the bike as "half Gold Wing, half crotch rocket" to people who have no idea about motorcycles.
ugh, ignorant mass populous around me have no problem referring to any of my three bikes as "crotch rockets" when they see the plastic bodywork and non-harley color. i have to pretty much give them a 2-minute lecture on the term "sport tourer".

6 speed tranny, relatively close ratio 1-4, wider 5 and 6, 6th being a good 20% lower than the 06.
i don't get the whole 6 speed issue, and closer gears. the previous fj11/12 was a torque monster, i think it's safe to say the fjr is a torque monster, pulls like a locomotive from 3k to 8k, yet we want to narrow that powerband? i don't get it...

good luck on the $7500 price tag, considering yamaha was charging that in '92 for a new fj with ABS.

Looks to me like all the suggestions added together equal a new BMW GT? Lotsa amps for plug ins and cruise control and electric heated seat and grips with plenty a beans to go on? Flint

 
Dear Yamma mamma. I want a shop manual that does not suk. The shop manual SUCKS!!! I aint stupid....... Iaint stupid enough to just take the bike apart and hope i can interpret your abbreviated crap!!!!! (today was frustrating.......... how the PhuK do you get the damm air filter out???????? I can see the little SOB) Manual sez "Take the cover off and refer to 4-1" Gee thanks :angry: I already got the dam side cover off

Aint no way that Yamaha could make best on the following list on theiir own: Suspension (Ohlins, Penske, or Traxion quality), GPS (Garmin), Stator (Electrosport high output style), Music (IPOD), Tires (Michelin or Avon), Paint ('05Galexy Blue, Ducati Red, Jet Black), Windshield (VStream Quality), Rims (Marchesini or Performance Machine Quality and color), Lights (Xenon style), Horns (Stebol type).

In my opinion Yamaha needs to make alliances with the above companies and offer their parts as stock and let them do the engineering. Why try to reinvent everything when we all like our Forum style farkels?! B)

I studied this bike a lot even before i bought it a sixth gear should totally be an option since the bikes top speed is limited by the bikes redline not by the motors maximum torq. Since the bikes torqu drops by lik 30lbs between 7000 and 9000 I think it would be possible to either add a gear or change the rear differential ratio to acheive a top speed around 165 maybe 170 which isnt quite the golden 3X the legal speed limit, oh i did mention thats what i want in the 2008 right? the ability to go three time the legal speed limit, just to say i can :)

3X I-states' max. speed (many @ 75mph) = 225 mph -- whew!

so let me summarize - you want all the comforts and features of a loaded Gold Wing but with the weight of an R1 and the price tag of a 600cc bike?

Surprised nobody has mentioned a black colour option. The R1 red is tits, too. Less weight. That's about it. Dropping weight ain't cheap...

I've seen equally impractical wishes posted, so here's mine. I want an adjustable seat height that will go as low as 26" but still maintain lean angle.
