So I once had this:

Which became this (see the story here):

And now I've ordered this:

So I'm used to having some silver accent parts on the bike, but the 2009 seems to be all black except for the frame. I like the black wheels, but I think it needs something in silver. Here's some options I came up with using my amateur Photoshop skills (notice that the fairing logo is removed in all of them):

What do you guys think? I'm leaning toward bike #2.

If someone has a 2008 FJR that wishes their bike was all black, we could swap gas tank trim pieces. Any takers? Otherwise, I'll have to get it repainted or buy a new part for ~$250!

The stripe on the fairing could be done with this reflective tape kit. I left the thinner stripe on top out of my mock-ups because I don't like it.

The side and tail pieces would be the biggest problem if I wanted those, because there was never a black FJR with silver sides/tail to do a part swap. I would have to either have the parts repainted, or buy parts for a 2007 FJR (~$500!).

Premier Accessories makes a stripe kit in silver for your bike that may interest you.
Yup; I have a link to their site in my original post. I'd be interested in the white reflective color for better night-time visibility. They say it looks gray in normal daylight, so it would hopefully be close enough to the silver gas tank trim piece. But that's my real problem; it looks like that piece is black for 2009.

Since it's got black wheels, do the whole thing in '03 liquid silver and confuse everybody.

It'll be faster then, too.

In your post crash photos it looks like the part that wraps around the bottom of the tank is still OK. Even the left side cover might be whole still, can't see it all. There's got to be a few Gen IIs in the bone yards that have a couple of good parts on them.

I thought about that part from my crashed bike also, but it was a little scraped up in one spot, plus the insurance company probably wouldn't appreciate me stripping the few good parts off of the bike that they now own and plan to auction off. I only removed aftermarket parts from the bike that were still good that they would have otherwise had to include in the settlement for accessories.

Anyone know of a good place to start when searching for a specific bike in junk yards?

I like the all black look. I would be willing to trade trim pieces and wheels B)
I want to keep the wheels, but I'll try to remember to contact you when I get the bike. Who knows... maybe that trim piece will actually be silver. Yamaha's own site for the 2008 is inconsistent on the coloring of that piece. The photos show silver, but the 360* view shows black.

I really wish Yamaha had done more with various silvers through the years than all the black.

Paint away!!

What kills me is Yamaha has a paint job, available only in the Euro version.

It Rocks!

If any body can find the US marketing director for Yamaha and ***** slap him silly, what the ****!

I too like the last pic. You can always check out the AE model. I believe in '08 it came in a beautiful silver/gray. Not sure about '09. Just a thought.

P.S. Glad you're okay. I agree with Toecutter. After a spill like that I applaud your decision to get back on the horse. Not sure I could. Like to think I could, but you never know.

Wow, it seems like the worst part of your ordeal is having to trade the black cherry for just black! That would break my heart. Of course, it would be a good excuse to paint the whole thing candy apple red....

I like the all black look...
+1

Very nice in the Darth Vader look. I wonder how much time it took to disassemble down to the bare frame and swingarm?!!

Depending on how light you go with striping, scratches through the vinyl will be more and more obvious.

All black and you can detail it with a Sharpie!
