Gun, any info on Catfish's zip tied rear brake pedal?
He said it inexplicable stopped returning to its full upright position (well, he may not have said it quite like that, but that's the gist of it). He compared it to another FJR at a bonus stop and couldn't readily identify the problem, so zip ties were in order.
When the pivot point gets gummed up, the spring isn't strong enough to pull it back up; needs to be taken apart, cleaned out, regreased, and re-assembled.

Here are a few more (misc) photos to keep it interesting for those of us playing on with the home game...

Alan Barbic (who failed to bring all of his items to the scoring table and fell from 10th to 74th
Awe that sucks...

There aint much worse than leaving points at the scoring table, or worse yet...

All that riding and the points are gone in an instant.
Could someone explains this? Is there a rule that you must bring all receipts, photos, etc to the table and if you forget them on bike (or where ever) you can't go back and get them? If so that would be demoralizing for Alan. Be awfully hard to keep focused on Leg 3. I suppose keeping focused is all part of the challenge though. Like the golfer who inadvertantly writes an incorrect score on his card.

Thanks

What is all the stuff on the farlke shelf? The wiring looks more like a Patriot Special
I spy...

(2) Garmin's

(1) Valentine

(1) Datel

(1) TPS system

(1) StarCom

(1) XM Radio Puck

(1) Valentine remote audio thing-a-mabob

And a mess or wires. Certainly not going for the Esthetically pleasing award :)

Yeah that's basically it, Once you step up to be scored you have to have everything with you, no ands/ifs or butts.

It generally goes like this.

[scorer] Rider #xx do you have everything you need and are you ready to be scored?

[Rider] Yes

[scorer] Ok once we start that's that. Are you sure?

[Rider] Yes

[scorer] (looking at rally book) Where is your receipt for x boni?

[Rider] Oh, that's in an envelope on my bike/in my hotel room <insert other location here>

[scorer] 0 points for bonus x

Dropping points at the table sucks azz. Been there done that.

This is an interesting set up. Two up riders? I'm assuming this is an aux fuel cell with two hydration systems attached?

Whose is it?
I don't recall seeing any 2-up FJR folks, but I could have missed 'em. Either way, I don't know who owns this rig.

It looks like it was a solo deal. Those orange straps seem to indicate the presense of a tail-bag rather than a passenger. :dntknw:

In the shorter rallies that I've ridden, that's exactly the case. Typically, the scorer will have a couple of questions to ask when you get to the table. And the last one is usually something like, "Are you sure you are ready to be scored?" Once you answer yes to that question, no leaving the table for any reason, until you and the scorer have completed your business.

It's all part of the mental challenge that is rallying.

A couple of updates from the sunny side of the STreet! You know you love them.

Sal Terranova is still having problems with his ST1100 electricals. If someof you ST1100 guys can meet him at the BMW dealer in Santa Ana tomorrow

afternoon/nite and maybe have some of the parts he might need it would be

great. Idon't know squat about the ST1100 but do know there is a component

that is prone to going out in the charging system.
So. Sal got relief at the BMW <Big Tom cringes> dealer. One of our guys was there to help with what ever he could. It seems to have been a battery/cables/wiring problem, not a charging problem. Sal's ST is an '02, they come with a great charging system. Looks like he is good to go.

From the official IBR reports, Day 7Scott LaShier apparently experienced a tire failure somewhere west of Kingman Arizona on Interstate 40, ran onto the median, and then lost control of the bike. He was conscious and able to request that the Rallymaster be called just before he was transported to the closest medical center, but we have not yet been able to obtain any details regarding the extent of his injuries
.
We have a guy checking the local hospital as we speak. Also are trying to contact, will advise when we know anything.

It was a pretty brutal leg for the ST crew. Eric Jewell moved up nicely, everybody else went the other way. The previously mentioned Alan Barbric and Tom Loftus among others. One bright spot, Maura Gatensby is now above finisher points. Go Maura.

So. I have to pay the Devil his due. Thanks to Dale and all you guys for the updates and links. If it hadn't been for you we wouldn't have known about Sal or Scott anywhere near as soon. Pretty darn good for Yamaha guys:)

(I have to admit, I'm a member here for a while. I got serious help for a buddy who rides a FJR when he needed it. I have also ridden many Yamaha in my past. Most recently, a Venture Royale, a seriously big Sport Tourer:))

I don't know all the players in the game .... but some one here will ... It's this guy ... definately came in solo. I have more photos I will load later.
