I love my 06 AE but I live outside Chicago where the traffic can really suck. So the AE is great. But if I lived where I didn't have to deal with traffic I'd get an A model.

I have ridden many FJR's (A & AE) before and since purchasing my AE. I can honestly say that I am always glad to be ridding home on my AE. Incredible machine! I'm not even remotely interested in stoplight to stoplight, clutch burning launches so it suits me well. If your riding style likes that sensation the A may a better fit. If not the AE does everything in such a graceful manner it makes you grin. And the grin stays long after the novelty wears off.

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to thank you for all your comments, they were much appreciated. I decided to get the 07AE and went back to the dealer today. They treated me well but the final result was that the cash difference after my trade was $9000 which was as much as another dealer wanted for an 09 Concours 14. At that point I left and it now looks as if I will get something else. Again thanks for your input and sorry I won't be joining the FJR community.

Yes, you will be sorry.... You'll be back.........

I love my AE but I think I would love the A just as much. Sometimes it is fun to ride those older classic bikes with the clutches. :drag:

I have put many miles on that Connie and you got a great bike for a great price!

I guess I wasn't clear in my reply, I didn't mean I could buy an 09 Concours for $9000, that would be a real steal! I meant $9000 plus my trade which was an 08 Buell Uly. I thought it was ridiculous that they wanted as much cash difference for the 07 AE as another dealer wanted for the 09 Concours. It really didn't matter because I didn't buy either one. They were both more than I was willing to spend.

Dealers are getting really reluctant to take trades do to the economic mess. They are afraid that they can't move them and still have older model left unsold that are new. I was really lucky, I bought my FJR during the peak gas prices and traded in a Majesty 400 scooter. The owner said he could sell one a day if he had the stock, I told him I was going to sell it myself. He offered me the FJR at a good price and took the majesty. The equivalent was a $4500 savings , which was $500.00 more than then I paid for the scooter in 2006.

Hi Guys,Well, I thought I was finally going to join the ranks of FJR owners when I found a local dealer that said he could get me an 09 from their warehouse by the next day. However when we sat down and started talking seriously, he wouldn't give me much on my trade and wouldn't budge off msrp on the FJR. By the time they had added in all their bullsh*t costs the price was over $18,000 OTD not counting my trade. I told him they must not be trying to sell anything and left. The point of this story is that another local dealer has a left-over 07 AE for a good price. I have been afraid to get an AE but I'm beginning to rethink. Since many of you that own AE's seem to like them maybe I should take the chance and get it. That is the only alternative if I want an FJR because I must trade my present bike in. Buying from a private party is not an option. So what do you all think? Should I get the AE or not? If I get it and don't like it my wife will kill me because she said my next bike must be my last for at least 4-5 years. Thanks for any input and opinions!

I went through the same thoughts as you for the "A" vs " AE" dilemma. I opted for the A since after reading a few of the reviews that said the button shift was a great idea, but not quite ready for prime time especially at low speeds. I bought my 07 used from a Harley dealer off EBay. I got a great deal because I suspect they didn't know what they had.

Test ride an AE if you get the chance. I bought mine (07AE) in October for 10,900 out the door and it is hands down the best bike I've ever owned (and I've had a bunch of 'em!). I love my old Ducati, but on the AE you can really TRAVEL....It's quick, comfortable and easy to ride a looong distance. I too was sceptical about the AE model, but the price was right, and the test ride went well. Now, after riding it for two months, it is a feature I'd look for on a new bike. I'm old fashioned MC wise, but this puppy's made a convert of me.

For what it's worth, the dealership where I bought mine in TN still had a new 07 AE on the floor a couple weeks ago...They've shipped bikes all over the country (all 50 states) and might be able to help you out...

Good luck. Whichever way you go, you'll be hooked on the FJR :yahoo:

OK, I'll ask............. Then why the heck ask the question to begin with? How about you decide how much you are going to spend, then go look..........

Can't speak for anybody else, but sometimes that's how I find out what I'm thinking.

Happy holidays, all.

I have no problem at low speed with the AE. In fact in some was I fined it better then a normal bike.

I think the problem is at low speeds without a clutch to feather it takes some tricks, such as as rear brake control with throttle.

actually I find that by very fine throttle changes I can keep the bike at a crawl.

Ways that I avoid being screwed in vehicle transactions:

1 - I never trade in. Anything. Sell it yourself. Craigs list is free. Make a little web site with a lot of pictures and full details and link to it in your CL ad. Be clear in your ad that you don't want any tire kickers or low ballers and you'll waste less time. If you can't be bothered to sell it, then the loss in money just isn't that important to you.

2 - I never finance any vehicle through any dealership. They are getting the same loans that you could get down the street and adding a nice cut for themselves. When I have had to finance a car I use a local credit union that I joined for $50.

3 - I never finance toys. If you don't have the cash to buy a toy, you don't need it. If this is truly transportation to commute to work, then that's fine. But financing your fun times just doesn't make sense. Would you take out a loan to go on vacation?

4 - I do not buy new (very often). Mostly I find something in nice condition on the used market and pocket the big depreciation difference. I have bought a few new cars over the years and the thrill of newness is not worth the loss inb value that happens at the beginning of ownership.

This may not work for everyone, but it is how this cheap ass frugal Yankee rolls. ;)

Excellent advice Fred.

May I also add that in Arizona, as well perhaps in some other states, you save even more by buying used from a PRIVATE party by not paying sales tax. That's $800 saved on a $10,000 vehicle.

Additionally, if you HAVE to buy new, then be flexible. Don't NEED the bike, do your research, and look at buying from a distant dealer with a KNOWN good reputation for service and value.
