Good day fellow forum FJR owners.

I completed all the functional farkles I planned to put on my new 2011 FJR1300, and am quite pleased with it...

Just wanted to share. If you think I am missing anything, I am all ears, or should I say - eyes! I just don't want to mess with the emission system...Those Yamaha mechanical engineers are smarter than me :rolleyes:

The farkles include:

- Motivation USA frame sliders

- Motorcycle Larry Highway pegs

- TechSpec knee and center tank pads (Snake Skin)

- WynPro 5” Ram ball mount (bolted at the tank screws), RAM arm & RAM GPS carrier

- Handle bar RAM mount, RAM arm, and RAM universal smart phone carrier

- Griffin Powerjolt micro flush Dual Universal USB outlet

- Fenda Extenda added to the front fender

- Shad SH-50 top case mounted on the new heavy duty steel top mount

- Radiator guard?

- 3M clear film protection for the headlights and other areas?

- Prophylactic onboard?

- V-Strom hand guards?

- Throttle lock?

Good looking Skoot! Even if it is a lowly Gen II.... :D

thanks much SkooterG for your recommendations...I will have to look into the 3M film & V-Strom hand guards (although the 2011 does come with heated hand grips)....

I used to have a throttle lock on my 2005 FJR1300, and it either slowly revved up or down...never static...

 
Even with the much-loved heated grips on my bike, I couldn't live without the V-strom guards. (I don't have either on my 2nd FJR and miss them both, but mainly the guards) They not only keep the cold air away, but also the rain!

I really believe in the 3M stuff. My old 226,000 mile FJR was still in 'almost new' condition where I had applied that stuff. My current bike doesn't have it and there is now no getting rid of all those little pits and flaws in the headlight plastic and other places. Google or search the forum for 'Tankslapper kit'.

To each his own, but the throttle lock is the one farkle I could not live without. It must be on there before anything else! I can't place enough value on being able to occasionally take my right hand off the grip, to shake out the tinglies, pick my nose, scratch my ass, or flip Fairlaner the bird. It doesn't have to be on long for it to valuable, and if it's missing I am one unhappy camper! :(

These things are a money pit...be careful you've just begun! ;)

Typically I can't stand the look of tank pads but I really like the black knee & center tank pads on your silver bike. Looks good, I like the contrast and it makes it look...dare I say...more sporty.

The only thing this bike needs now is to chew up some serious mileage out on the open road!

 
Oh yes!!!!

I bought it a couple weeks ago, and so far have been commuting with it... I will break 'er in during the month of May.... Heading down to Deal's Gap area....

I picked up the VStrom guards and 3M kit...Looking forward to their arrival!

Once you get a thottle lock dialed in it should not vary throttle. Just tight enough that it does not spring back open due to too much tension and no drag when not engaged.

 
Even though you didn't buy the vastly superior 05 in Blue, perhaps... a voltage meter?

When you change your front tire, get yourself a 90 degree air valve installed. No more fighting with disks to check the air.

Holy schnikees! you have some pretty interesting farkles!

When I had my 2005 FJR, I had 3 separate powerlet outlets, although I only used 2 of them. the 2011 comes with a 12V outlet, so that combined with a dual USB female receptacle to go in the 12v plug, I can power my cell and GPS...If I find reason to power something else up (never sure what the future holds :) ), I would definitely add another powerlet...

I am still pondering the WynPro pad. I bought his 5" RAM arm, and it is well constructed....

Regarding the tire...I have seen folks with (flat) tires on their bikes (which are normally found on 4-wheeled vehicles)....it would seem the flat face would hamper smooth operation and traction in turns....What has been your experience?

I also had risers on my 2005. I promised myself to ride the FJR with stock handle height for a while to see how I feel. I like the riding angle, but time will tell if my body will like the riding angle :)

 
I agree with the holding off on the risers for a while. I have them on my 06 back when I was a bit more laid back of a rider and now that I am a little more aggressive I wonder how it would be without the triple clamp and risers. Nothing mentioned about a windshield. I bought the vstream but only use it in the winter as the motor doesn't move it up and down when on the move and I tend to like the look of the stock one. The vstrom handguards also protect your hands from stones etc. and the throttle lock is a must if only to give you a couple minutes of relief. I understand there have been some subtle changes since 06 so I assume the G2 throttle is not necessary, and heavy bar ends also are not needed as the right grip no longer vibrates? Is the suspension better and the seat? I have searched far and wide for a replacement for the fjr and can't find one. If it had real cruise control I don't believe anything could touch it. I have 106k miles on mine and farkeled the triple clamp and risers, salamander bar ends, G2 throttle sleeve, power commanders, fender extenda, throttle lock, spec tech tank protectors, ak20 forks and penske shock, mayer seat, ram mounts, vstream handguards, fz1 mirrors (only because I hit a turkey buzzard and it messed up the stock mirror and they are cheaper than the fjr stock mirrors),grip puppies, and K&N air filter (wouldn't do it again but it was dyno'd with it and I don't want to dyno it again). Runs as good or better than new. With the new tweaks I could get into a newer one 2011 and on and not have to spend the big bucks on the seat and suspension? enjoy, they are great bikes.
