I have hi-lighted maps of the route for everyone. When time gets closer I will recheck the closed roads, and hi-light a easy detour.

Wheetie, when you get a final head count let me know. With the count I will let you know if a cook out is still possible. With a large turn out, it may be a bit much to do a cookout.

Smitty
Thanks. Those of us too cheap to buy programmable Garmins appreciate a paper map.

I will be glad to lend a hand with the cooking if needed.

Just got back from Bixby. The new asphalt on Hwy P makes that road incredible, but there's a downhill decreasing radius turn that really sneaks up on you now.

Other good news is the country store in Bixby now has T-shirts so bring a little extra cash with you. If you've never been, once you see the place you'll understand.

UPDATE:

Just talked with Smitty today...I think I am going to CAN the picnic/grillout idea. As much as I was looking forward to it, I don't think that it is practical to do the grillout with 18 or more people signed up

When Smitty offered, there were only 8 people signed up...which was our typical number for this event. I don't want to have 18 people tromping through his house to use the bathroom, and have him trying to get tables and everything for all that.

So...we have plenty of time to figure out an alternative real close to the Super 8. In fact, Smitty already has a place that may work out perfectly for our group...no matter what size it is. They serve alcohol, have a separate room, and take individual checks, AND Smitty has eaten there many, many times with good results. They are within stumbling distance of the Super 8 so I hear. I will check it out and post up in the near future. The main thing is that we have a place to eat and imbibe after a great day of riding.

Also, since so many have signed up, I will contact the Catfish Kettle to see when the best time is to go over there to eat. So be willing to go with the flow...

This is still a very informal event, just wanting to make it so people have a good time.

Just a few comments that all participants should be aware of...

  • If we get as many participants on Saturday as there appear to be signed up for...I will probably split the riders up into 3 or 4 groups of 6 max and have them leave in 10min increments. We have some fairly accomplished riders who I will probably ask to start off the faster moving groups...and I may start off the last group.
  • If you do not want to be part of a "group", but want to ride by yourself, or just you and your buddy, let me know via PM a week ahead, as I will use that last week to try to put groups together.
  • DO NOT RIDE FASTER THAN IS SAFE FOR YOU. DO NOT TRY TO KEEP UP WITH THE RIDER IN FRONT OF YOU. THIS IS AN INDIVIDUAL RIDE.
  • You do not need to remain in these groups if you feel the ride leader pace is too pokey, or you find yourself going faster than you should. However, if you do want to ride ahead of or behind the group, please try to notify the ride "leader" before heading off by yourself.
  • This is not really a "group ride" where the "leader" leads people down the road and we all have our assigned positions. This is an INDIVIDUAL RIDE where everybody will be expected to know the route as if you were going on this ride by yourself. I will send out S&T files and/or GPX files shortly with Smitty's detours (based on the road closures). GET TO KNOW THIS ROUTE.
  • I do not want unsafe passing or terrorizing of the locals (of which I have sometimes been accused). Try to be friendly with the riders and autos you are passing...we will be in this area again and don't want a bad reputation from this regular Hooterville ride.
  • Also, if the rider in front of you is going too pokey and you find that they are holding you up, feel free to pass on a straight somewhere. ALSO, if you are holding someone up, go to the fog line and wave them on around. I can't possibly know everybody's pace, so be aware of this as the ride moves on and rider's paces sort themselves out.
  • AGAIN, get to know the route when it is made available to you. Friday night before the ride we will hand out paper maps and talk briefly about the route.
Too much talk about "ground rules" for this ride, but just thought I would let everybody know the expectations.

Let's have a great ride, but a safe ride as well, where nobody gets hurt and no plastic is scuffed.

Good set of rules Mark. 'Ride your own ride' is always a must. Nothing ruins a great ride like someone going down, no matter how minor.

Here's a little taste of the roads in Hooterville. This was taken yesterday on Hwy P that was just repaved. The guy who took the video is a pretty good rider on a 750 gsxr. That is me on the black FJR that you can see for a second at the beginning before he leaves me in the dust. Damn rider between me and the camera kept slowing me down!

No "unsafe passing, or terrorizing of locals".... dude you have changed soooo much since the last H'ville ride I made with you.

Oh, for those of you that are new...make sure you have PLENTY of tread on your tires. These roads will scrape the rubber off your tires in NO TIME. Don't be thinking that you can come down to Hooterville and finish up a set of tires. Put on fresh rubber....just like your momma toughtcha. :p

Put me in the last group of riders... at the back. And if it is an even number, just put me down to ride alone.... feng shui and all that.

Okay...Smitty has suggested THE PASTA HOUSE ,which is real close to the Super 8 (within walking distance). They have a variety of things on the menu, steaks, etc besides pasta. Click on the link to see the menu. I don't know prices or anything, but I presume it would be like any AppleBees or anything like that. Smitty goes there regularly and so it is Smitty recommended. The good thing is that they have a room in the back for 50 with a sliding partition in half for a group of 25. I believe our group will be less than or equal to 25 when all is said and done.

HERE'S THE DEAL - This is a great place for all of us to get together after the great day's riding. If some of you do not want to eat in a larger group setting, or hate the food there and don't want to be "forced" to eat with the group, or just plain want to do their own thing at a different restaurant with their riding buddy, I understand. That's fine...however, I need to know if that is your intent so we can tell the restaurant a correct number to reserve for.

Therefore, post up by August 31 if you don't want to eat at The Pasta House.

I will assume that those who don't post up have no issue with eating there with Smitty and me.

I recommend...

Scampi alla Griglia

Gulf shrimp with Italian seasoned bread crumbs charcoal grilled and served over spaghetti with olive oil and fresh garlic.

Or the...

Rigatoni Alla Carbonara

With cream, butter, crisp bacon and tossed with egg and fresh parmigiano cheese.

Lots of good stuff, plus the steaks are very good... :assassin:

Smitty
