OK folks. Just thought I would start early with throwing around dates for this ride this year Here is WV projected peak foliage map. WV Foliage

Judging from this map it looks like the first two weekends in October look the best. I am open to pretty much any weekend, but have to note that after EOM I am done with vacation for the year. As long as the meeting place is withing 4-6 hours from here I am good for Friday afternoon (after work) through Sunday.

The question is do we want to camp or hotel. I am open for both. Of course past years we have centered around Marlinton, so there are many options including Old Clark, Marlinton Motor Inn, Watoga SP, Seneca Shadows SP, etc. There are other options too. I was thinking that if we stayed at two different places Friday and Saturday we could cover more ground. Of course that would make camping less convenient.

So there it is. What say all? Oh, and incase you were wondering just what you are in for if you haven't done this ride here are some pictures from past years:

I am definitely in for that trip! My fave! Well, that's provided that I get my motorcycle started. lol! I vote for indoor accomodations. In past years it was below freezing overnight. I etched my name in the frost on my seat. That's how cold it was.

PS... nice pictures! Goshen Pass looks like it was peaking with color.

PSS.. forgot to post about a date. I'd vote for the 2nd week in October.

I'm not going to jinx myself by committing to this.

I'm ok either indoors or out. ( prefer out! )

All weekends are pretty much the same to me.

If you plan it they will come.

It will be good to see you again Robert. You went and got a job and we haven't seen you since Breaks!

So far one vote for indoors and one for out. Janet is in for this trip and I am sure she would prefer indoors too, but I haven't asked yet.

This particular October camping excursion to Watoga SP it was 26 degrees when we got up Saturday morning. We had plenty of anti-freeze, though! (Jim calls it wax covered mule piss!)

No trip is complete until you get a picture of Jay with his pants down.

This is why I'm voting for indoor accommodations:

I just sent Andrea and Nelson from the Old clark in Marlinton an inquiry on avaiability for the first two weekends of October. As soon as I hear back I will post.

Got an email back from Old Clark. Good availability both weekends. The first weekend is just two weeks after EOM, so some might want a little time between trips. However, the second weekend may be a lot past peak for the Marlinton area. They will block out rooms for us on either weekend. So far I have only one vote for the second weekend. If it was my choice I would choose the first weekend, but I will go with the majority.

So what says all? And is the Old Clark a good center of operation? If you have never stayed there you will love it.

Here is the Old Clark website

Has there been a decision made on this?

I am sorting out obligations for October and would like to come to this if I could. The weekend before I'm hoping to do part of the Arkansas twisty ride but I'm gonna cut that short and also visit an old Navy buddy in Hot Springs.

The only other potential conflict is a reunion of some my old unit mates from my unit in the USNR. There's no decision been made on that either ---

Anywho - I'll camp or do a motel, but would rather do a motel. Even a flea bag is better than the ground IMO plus it's difficult to pack enough camping gear to be comfortable.

What part of the state do you want to base this out of?

Edit: never mind, I see Marlinton, WV @ the Old Clark Inn, and most want the 1st weekend.

We have stayed at the Old Clark many times and it is not a flea bag by any means. I am guessing that this will probably be the weekend of 10/12 to 10/14.

Says he that usually doesn't slog to the 3rd floor while drunk... or need to walk down from the 3rd to the 2nd floor in the middle of the night (while drunk) because Andrea wouldn't open the economy room bathroom because there was only 2 people staying on said 3rd floor.

Otherwise, this place is awesome.

& 1st weekend is fine with me. I actually think it may be a little early, though. Last year we were a little early & saw the peak in the high country while the lower stuff was still green. Actually, it was a nice treat. 150 was absolutely awesome! What weekend was that? I don't remember.

I'm hoping to make this ride this year. Things are looking good, but I won't know for another couple of weeks. If I can go I will be staying in a motel (Homie don't camp off his motorcycle).

Remember the term I used last year was....Happy!

Last year was 10/7 -10/9 That was just about peak. Colors were changing while we there. Remember the remarkable difference in Montery between Friday and Sunday?
