It appears the unspoken theme for the 2013 Gerlachfest was: "Casings Flying: Celebrating the 2nd Amendment!"

All photos from Tobie Stevens... casings flying in every shot!

Iggy on his Huskey.....

J.P. Mountain, who finished in 2nd Place in the IBR this year...

Ande Burgman (awesome t-shirt!) and Chickey:

Jon Good is pilot, George Zelenz the gunner..... awesome expression on both gentlemen....

IBR Rallymistress Lisa Landy and Steve Hobart take a run at Barbie....

untitled-1563-XL.jpg

Holy fucking shit, this one of Mark Crane as pilot and Ande Burgman as gunner completely describes this year's Gerlachfest gunplay!

As other Ride-By Shooters line up behind them, Ira Agins pilot's his Mustang as J.P. Mountain blasts away with his .40, and our own Bounce fires his completely stunning Patriot Ordnance Factory AR-15!

Below was the very first Ride-By of the day... Maura was piloting her truck; Gunners were (left to right) Brad (beerme) Warwick with his service .40, Jon Good firing his bayonet-fixed Colt AR-15, Chicky firing his Kimber 1911, and myself firing my Springfield Armory XD(m) 9mm. What is so very, VERY awesome is that Tobie snapped this photo at the exact time that a spent casing had just been ejected from each of the four weapons!!!

Over a half-dozen Gerlachfest virgins had to do the time-honored Firewalking...

To see all the carnage, go to tobie.smugmug.com then go to the motorcycle category and enjoy the 2013 Gerlachfest gallery. Do the slide show, it's awesome. THANK YOU, TOBIE!!!!

And finally, I think this last one is magazine-publishing worthy, in my opinion....

Tobie's photos are great. I took a few snapshots that are pretty pedestrian but can be found at:

I was hauling too much crap to take the bike. Along with the banner was the POF P-415, the Kimber Pro Carry II, 1k rounds for each, and sundries.

There are a few HUGE panoramas mixed in there of the Playa (360 degrees), Walker Lake, the Elvis monolith, and The Circle of Honor.

Side note: As we lined up for flight clearance in the convertible, JP (in the front seat) looked at me and said, "Don't shoot me." I replied, "Don't stand up." All went well. In the pass with the white sedan (last photo), I was in the front and (I think it may have been JP again but don't actually remember) was in the back. Justin was driving. Half way through the strafe, I realized I was shooting as if I was using a pistol (with it's limited mag capacity). I then had the last half of the run to unload the remainder of the 30 round mag, so sprayed-and-prayed. I heard from the back seat, "Hey! You're hitting me with your brass!" I then heard from a bystander in the distance, "You winged her (Barbie)!" Fun times!

Let's not forget there was the beginning of a beautiful relationship on the playa as well (also photographed by his awesomeness, Tobie Stevens). This union is so special that we had the pope officiate.

The coconut was dispatched via "US Army 'Quick Fire'"; sometimes incorrectly called "hip shooting" and done by walking in the rounds. 3rd round was on target (high, low, then bull) and the rest were gravy. Using the sights at that distance would have been cheating (unless you were saddled with only a pistol).

Note that the cavalierly-held cigar in the shooter's mouth never misses a puff. Sgt York eat your heart out.

I like this one, but to really see it you need to go to it on the site, view it in ORIGINAL size, and scroll around it for the detail. Give it time to load because it's sorta big.

I can never get a both-thumbs-high-and-forward grip ("FBI" shooter). I try and it seems there's nowhere but the slide and slide-stop to rest my thumbs. I still hold strong-hand-thumb-down (like a revolver) and support-hand-thumb over the strong-hand thumb (shooter behind Dale). It's worked for decades like that, so...

What does Fencer say? "Just because you have done it like that all along doesn't mean you've been doing it right?" Or something like that. I hadn't even looked at your grip. Its worse than Dale's. Setting your thumbs below the safety of a 1911 is a huge mistake...Correcting a bad grip is the first and easiest step in increasing speed and accuracy. BUT it "works" for you, so have at it. You know, I know a lot of people that ride MCs without helmets. Works for them too...Until it doesn't.

Most fun I have had all year. Thanks to Tom Austin, Joe Denton, Warchild on the organizing committee and all the A+ awesome attendees who make Gerlachfest the "Killer" event that it is! :)
