Has anyone removed the front cowling on a Gen III?

Unfortunately the Yamaha workshop manual is not yet available in Australia.

I have removed the side fairing panels, The panel around the instruments and the battery cover. I have also removed the mirrors and the four self tap screws that secure the front fairing panel.

The front panel is now free to move except that it seems to be secured in the centre at the very front but I cannot see any attachment method.

Any suggestions.

PM Fairlaner...I believe he's had his '13 down to splitting the case...something about not letting a Plastigage set going to waste.

Do I need to remove the complete nose or can I remove the fairing panel and leave the instruments/headlights etc in place?

I have just PM'ed Fairlaner as suggested.

Gonna get this one in under the wire before dogpile Friday starts (hopefully)...

Has anyone had any success in figuring out a way to remove the silly 80 mph limit on this new model? Google only returns a bunch of people on different forums bitching about it (like me), but as of yet, I haven't found anything where anyone has reported any news on how to remove the limit or if Yamaha will come out with some sort of software patch in the future.

I have written a letter to Cypress and also spoken on the phone with one of their reps. They were utterly unhelpful... just spouted the "it's a decision Yamaha made to limit liability" line.

I know I'm not the only person here who thinks it's a stupid limitation for this bike to have. There are some well-seasoned members here who agree that the limit is utterly ridiculous.

Also, Fairlaner, now that you've had a few months with your new baby, how is she with regards to higher-rev vibes, compared to your previous ride? I seem to remember a post where you said it was smoother, but that was right after you bought the bike.

I would say that the Vibes are a little less.......

I increased the CC limit to 82mph by going to a 190/55/17 rear tire....

Dave, was that really necessary? Gen III (American) owners having a head explodie after seeing that. You should be ashamed! ;)

Well, the FJR Fairy (no, not bust) visited me.

I know where 2013 VIN: #179 is. It'll be in my possession on Saturday

I figured all the low serial numbers would have been sold by now.
My preferred dealer is in a little town of 2500 ppl and sells more FJR's than any other Yamaha dealer in Canada.

Great dealer, fair price.

Interestingly enough, insurance for the new bike is only 25% more than the old bike. It was the clincher for me, I was expecting to get hosed on insurance for it (welcome to Ontario).

Anyway, I'll be selling off my Gen 1 specific farkles over the next few weeks then old faithful will be put up for sale.

did u ride one at CFR and that sealed the deal?
I guess so. I've been shopping, both the FJR, and other bikes for a while now. The demo ride just confirmed what I knew deep down that I'd continue to be another FJR owner. Despite me lusting after more hooliganish bikes :D

Now I get to go shopping for stuff that my bikes need to have but don't fit between gens.
