So a quick update. I ended up ordering a solo Sargent seat, directly from Sargent. I placed the order at 7:00pm Sunday night and had a tracking # by 10:00am Monday. I will give that a good try, before ordering an RDL with my now available stock seat.

I put on a OEM touring windscreen and am rather disappointed in it's performance above the stock. I love the wind in my face, as much as the next biker, but for a long distance setup, I want calm air and little to no turbulence and buffeting. I placed an order for a Laminar lip, that I will put on the stock screen and report back my personal findings.

I ordered a set of ADVMonster Model 55 aux. lights and a set of mirror brackets from Garuald. I have ordered from ADVMonster in the past and their quality is good, as is their customer service. The wiring kit is much higher quality that than the one from 3 years ago.

I placed an order from MCL(against my better judgement) for the peg lowering kit, bar risers and brake reservoir cover w/ ram ball. The order shipped out quick and arrived Saturday. Unfortunately, they sent me someone else's order. Some of the same items, but still a goof up. I called them yesterday and they promptly sent out the remainder of the items. I will probably use the peg kit for long rides, as I do not want to give up any ground clearance on the twistys and grinding pegs is very unnerving to me.

Sounds like you are on your way. I'd be interested in hearing a detailed report on the laminar lip mounted on the stock screen. I've often thought that some reverse flip is needed on the stock screen.

Bun Burner Gold is a motorcycle ride in which you must ride 1,500 miles in less than 24 hours. ?? so you have to average 62mph for 24 hours ?? wow

i'll do 500 in the twisties but slabbing for a day, thats a type of riding not for everyone. Good Luck !!

Yes, the BBG is 1500 miles in under 24hrs. I attempted it in October and ended up stopping with about 150 miles to go, to get some rest. I still completed a Bun Burner (1500 miles in under 36hrs).

The BBG is a very tough ride. Everything has to go smoothly and the slightest hiccup can ruin the attempt. My plan is to go from the nc/sc line in Fort Mill,SC to the last gas station in Florida City,FL and back. Exactly 1500 miles. Google maps has it as 21hrs 10min of ride time. I find that at an above average pace, I can gain about 8min per hr. on the google estimate.

I am an odd character. I like setting extreme goals, to see if I can acheive them. For example: I decided one day that I wanted to run a marathon, so I trained for 1 year and ran one. Then, I ran another so I wasn't a statistic of 90% of 1st time marathoners do not complete a 2nd.

Another: I wanted to see if I could live Vegan for a year. I achieved that goal too. I enjoyed a large Ribeye and bowl of icecream at 12:01am Jan.1(and promptly threw it all back up)

How I look at it is; you don't know what you are capable of, until you push yourself to your perceived limits and then see what's left.

Like I said. odd character.

Good luck with your planned rides 'fireman! As you make the '13 yours, you'll find the FJR to be an excellent platform for anything from twisty road enjoyment to serious LD work. FWIW, I have a Sport Touring VStream on my '15. Excellent screen that I use year around.

BTW - Here's a link to my border to border adventure a couple years ago. Keep the wheels spinning and the miles pile up!

Took advantage of a beautiful day today and rode the FJR to Clemson,SC for a meeting. Decided to take the long way home, up Hwy11, over the 276(wow, what a road) and 64/26/11 home. Approx. 350 mile day.

#1Stock seat still blows. Thankfully my Sargent seat was waiting for me, when I got home.

#2 Definately have to address the pull back on the bars. MCL bar risers should be here soon and I will look at the settings on the bars.

#3 OEM touring windscreen wasn't too bad. Laminar lip on the OEM should do the trick. If not, I will get the MRA X-screen and mount it on the Touring.

#4 Cruise control still rocks.

You might want to upgrade the horn. I rec'd a PIAA for Christmas and as soon as the snow melts, I look forward to installing it.

A little off topic - I have a friend who lives in south Carolina. We've met in Robbinsville for a little Deals Gap railing more than twice. He has often talked about Hwy 276 as a possible southerly loop ride out of camp one day. I just looked at it on the map - that road definitely looks inviting. Normally, we take Hwy 28 when heading in that direction. Last time I was riding there, Hwy 28 was full of tar snakes and the road was a little damp - not too much fun. Next time, I'm going to give it another look.

As a side note, I might be in Brevard in the next couple of weeks. Retirement home recon mission doubling as a Mardi Gras vacation. We'll see if the weather holds....

Thanks for the nudge!!

US 276 had some really ****** pavement two summers ago when I last rode it. It is indeed a fun ride near Caesar's Head, though short.

If you're northbound on 276, keep rolling into NC. The best section (in my expert opinion) lies in the Nantahala National Forest, north of Brevard. Nice curves, decent pavement, spectacular views.

You can return south along the same piece of 276 (it's fun in either direction) or take NC 215 back to Rosman and NC 1107 (East Fork Road) back to US 276. NC 215 was resurfaced two or three years ago, making it -- perhaps -- my favorite NC highway.

Caution: US 276 and NC 215 get sand/salt in winter. Let's be careful out there.

Oh yeah - agree Hud. Once you get to the longitude of Brevard, it's pretty hard to screw up no matter which way you go. In my experience riding over there, I tend to gravitate toward North Georgia as it lends itself better to my overall route either to or from home. But I'd like to venture more into NW S/C next time - just to try something different.

Apologies to the OP for jacking up his thread.

get to test the seat yet ??
Nope, not yet. This weekend should be beautiful and in the 70's. I hope to put some miles on it then.

I am planning my BBG attempt on 3/11. That should be a good test.

Go get 'em, Bama Boy! If you're headed south on I-85, close your eyes around the US 76 interchange. Could get ugly with all the orange paw prints and ****.

Tell me about it. I am doing some work on the Clemson campus. I still proudly wear my Alabama gear anywhere and everywhere.

It was a hell of a game. I am ready for the rubber match next year.

So I have had a chance to do some Farkling to my new(ish) FJR.

Garualds Highway Pegs. I have had a chance to try them out and I like them. I may put some spacers on them, to get them to stick out a little further.

Laminar Lip on stock windshield. Jury is still out on this one. I am still going to try an MRA X-Screen on the Yamaha Touring windshield.

I was also tossing whether to get a laminar or an MRA, and went with the MRA for it's adjustable. Got the clamp on so I can try it before bolting it onto the Yam touring windshield.

I like being in a "bubble" so this is the way to go for me.

Nice!! I've got the same bike and done nearly the same things. GIVI top box + SR357 + Garauld stiffy = ****. I can haul salt blocks if I want. I also installed the TREX sliders and dig them. I like your extra lights and the highway pegs, those may surely be the next investment. Always worried about dragging extra pegs though, I have that problem with most hard parts. Awesome bike overall, time to RIDE!

Did a 300 mile ride yesterday trying out all of the added farkles. I like the Sargent seat, but I don't think it will be 18hr day comfortable. That being said, I placed an order with RDL today(build date 5/4/17)
