Let alone give ferry times and discuss optional roads!!! WTF We could all lose our seat to the show!

How else are we supposed to show from our armchairs how much we know and how full of useful information we are..

That certainly was not my intent. My apologies. I took my first public "slap down" in stride, and I'll let it be at that.

But quite frankly, if someone was going to try to get helpful tips from someone with just 5 digits, they aren't riding in this rally.

Mike, there were a few of us on that train.

We crashed my new Barge not too long ago and I got a broken rib and thumb, wifey got a broken left arm. During the course of our various conversations with medical types, we had a couple of them mention not to fly for at least 36 hours later because of possible blood clots at or near the break points. This was later confirmed to have happened to a riding buddy's friend, he flew home the next day after a crash and got a big clot in his leg (near the break) two days after he got home. Nearly killed him. My friend crashed far from home and his doctor put him on blood thinners for a day before he flew home.

Any of the medical types out there can confirm this? Seems like a concussion is a blunt trauma like a break. Any risk to our poor IBR participant?

Yes, the next routing is 'on the clock'. . .
Meaning they are routing as they go (i.e. no advance planning)? Flying by the seat of their pants??
Unlike Leg 1 in which they receive their packets the night before and don't leave until 10 am the next morning, they are "on the clock" when they get their next packets and can leave immediately if they so choose.

Sad to see a couple of riders in trouble so close to the finish of the leg. Could be as simple as a flat tire. Let's hope nothing serious.

It could also be SPOT issues. Those devices have been running a few days now, and some may be low on battery power.

Good point, I hope that's all it is. You need to reset them every 24 hours for tracking, or it just stops tracking.

If it's still showing on Spotwalla with a 7-4 date then I'm pretty sure it's still working. IIRC Jason delays the public feed by a little bit to keep the actual location of the riders secure, plus the Spotwalla Server only pings the Spot server about every 15 minutes or so. I'm thinking the rider North of Flint is stationary, but then I have been wrong before. ;)

I generally deal with that by turning mine off when I stop to rest. I hit the custom message button, give it about 15 minutes to make sure it went, then shut it down until I go again.

Of course that does mean I run the risk of forgetting to turn it on again. I suspect that there will be quite a bit of this as the rally progresses, and folk get tired.

Heck, I did it on a 32 hour rally once  . Granted, it was my first rally using a spot, and did not know about the 24 hour limitation. Luckily only an hour or so went be before I noticed.

I definitely hope it's only spot problems. Flat tires would be a bummer on July 4th, can't imagine getting a new tire today. And just no time to solve any mechanical problems.

Flint, MI to Cranbury Township = 5 hours and 20 minutes with clear traffic.

Unless what we see is incorrect - that rider is unable to prevent a DNF at this point.

I hate to say it but I would guess that the spot tracker in Hershey is probably Larry Meeker's bike.

If you switch to satellite view and zoom in it seems to be sitting in an auto repair shop...and it has a flat bed tow truck sitting outside so it could easily have been the folks that were called to take care of his bike.

And I got the info about Larry's accident from the official Iron Butt report.

The one by Flint is interesting though. Zoom in on that view and it shows sitting on the freeway right in front of a rest area.

I've been having fun zooming in and guessing some of the bonus locations. One seemed to be an inclined railway. I was thinking though that the one in Pittsburgh would have been a MUCH more evil version of that bonus. From what I remember of the area it would be a BEAR to get to in traffic in any kind of timely mannor.

That was my guess, as well.

It's been there pretty much all day. I'm thinking the SPOT batteries died or the SPOT tracking timed out after 24 hours.

...and.....

Since it looks like he's on his way, and there's no way for anyone else to make that bonus and still get to the hotel in time...I guess it's ok to talk about it...

It looks like there was a bonus of a masted sailing ship in Erie that one rider just managed to get. I think he'll have just enough time to make it back.

It's actually a REALLY cool aerial shot of the ship when you zoom in on the satellite view!

Once I get my personal life all settled and can take some vacations, there are some things I've seen in the bonus lists that I think would be fun to visit that I might never have known about except for following the Iron Butt.

How accrurate are those things? No idea on what the cause could be but just odd that it shows sitting on the FREEWAY and not IN the rest area. Guess we'll just have to wait for the next official update.

I'm looking forward to seeing the bonus list to see if the couple I picked up on are correct.

Same. Well, the bonus list part anyway. I would like to get previous year's listing and just hit a few of the more interesting ones.
