I've seen mention in one of the multi-page threads about a 'second batch' of FJRs being delivered in February. Is there any good word that these will be somewhat different that the 'first batch', or am I just confused (not an uncommon event)?

How can they improve something that's not had any flaws identified.

Now now, If I want to cruise over 80 I'll just use my hand.

Yes, but not everyone rides exactly the same. There are enough FJR riders who are unhappy with the 80mph limit that it is an issue. The best part is that Yamaha can fix this without it bothering the owners that don't need it.

Here in Arizona we do have those white signs with black numbers on them but we customarily think of them as “suggestions” rather than “limits”. Today I thought I’d be open minded and give the cruise control a fair test coming down I-17 from Flagstaff to Phoenix. I slid into the right lane and ran the cruise up to maximum (82 indicated/80 Garmin). Pretty soon, people were slamming on the brakes behind me and zooming past me in the left lane like I was sitting on the kickstand. The last straw was the minivan full of nuns who gave me the finger as they flew by. It became obvious after about 2 minutes that if I didn’t pick up the pace I was going to get mowed down.

I’ve had the unnerving thought that the US-Yamaha lawyer (whom I’m sure reasonable people can agree would require at least two major promotions to qualify as a stupid *******) who came up with this moronic arrangement may have painted Yamaha into a corner. They’ve now admitted (implied ?) that 80 MPH is, in their opinion, the maximum safe speed to operate the vehicle by cruise control. Now, suppose they give us the software to up the ante and some guy has a bad wreck with the cruise control engaged……

What a coincidence, because I just did the I-17 thing today from Camp Verde south to New River Road here in Arizona, similar to AKjitsu above. (Hi Jerry!) Although I didn't get the finger from the nuns, I was indeed often getting passed even though the cruise control was maxed out. And, identical to what was stated, the maximum on mine was 82 indicated and 80 GPS! (How do it know?)

This is off-topic, but what the heck: I have installed the V-Strom knuckle guards on my 2013 and they work fine. Yes, full lock to the right causes them to hit the fairing at about the last 1/8 of an inch, but the fairing/knuckle guard combo has enough give that it still reaches full lock very easily. And as for me, my use of full deflection in turns is, shall we say, rather limited. I like the guards, just like I did on my '05 and '08!
