Wow. This new 2014 is making my decision much harder. A few months ago I was pretty much set on trading in my '08 FJR for a '14 BMW K1600GT. But this new '14 FJR is really making me think.

Looking forward to the Motorcycle show in NYC in December. I'll get one last good look at both of them and then make a decision.

Came back to this thread again just to look at that damn Red! Guess I'm now a Red Bike fan

YIKES!- that skanky girl Skoot is pic'd with however is downright nasty! Hope he had a zupped up dose of penicillin handy after that one ;)

Workng at the AIMExpo in Orlando this week and while helping set up the Yamaha exhibit I was able to obtain some (not so) super secret spy photos of the new '14 FJR with the electronic suspension. As far as I know, currently there is only one 'ES' FJR in the country and it is currently a display model only for the upcoming motorcycle show season. This one was also seen at WSB in Laguna Seca for the first time and was previously posted on the forum. it is VIN 0001 with a build date of 6/13. There are two other non-ES '14 FJRs also. One is a show display unit (VIN 234, build date 9/13), and the other a Demo unit as of today. I got to be the first to ride the first '14 FJR in the country!

So here is yours truly on the ES model:

>

Here are some close-up photos of the wiring going into the top of the forks:

Here are some photos of the shock, with some wiring going into it:

And a cannister/remote resevoir/something installed on the inside of the right passenger footpeg bracket:

And a new ECU for the electronic suspension located in the underseat tray:

The beautiful USD forks:

And as a comparison, the normal 'A' model's front forks and fender. (Now painted body color vs. black for the '13 model):

I would have like to have gotten photos of the ES controls in the display but the battery on this bike is disconnected.
ScooterG, Many tks for the pics. Is there metallic flake in the paint? Does the front fender have that silly Yamaha decal? Did you happen to notice, is there just one horn unit?

I like that a LOT. I don't give a rat's ass if I can't work on the forks. I can't work on my 2007's forks!!
When it comes to servicing the suspension, electronic or otherwise, I'd rather have someone with the proper tools (and hopefully the skill) do it AND if they mess it up, it's their problem to fix.

This brings up a good question-are service intervals for the ES suspension any different from the standard model?

Exactly!! That's why I do my own work.

Considering that there is absolutely no prescribed service interval for the forks of the 2002 thru 2013 model years, I doubt that this will have changed. Prudent owners will change the fork oil as they see fit and the rear shock will wear itself out when it wants to. ;)

I'm confused. That link says "49 State, September. CA, October". I did not see anything about November.

October is for the "A" model, November for the "ES" which will probably be December??

Ah, I see now. Your first link took me to the "A" model. Of course it does not matter because it's October already and there are none of the 49 state "A" models available yet even though they were supposed to be here last month.

Perhaps the Candy Red paint was defective.

Gotta Hit the "Choose Comparison Model" button, when I copied the link it didn't add that part in, you have to click it yourself...

Thanks for the report & pictures Skooter!I want to add that the shock and forks probably comes from Ohlins..

Yamaha has bought Ohlins some years ago and she makes electronic suspensions for the BMW for years now...
In the video on Yamaha's site of the "walk around" of the ES model, it states they use KYB electronic suspension.

JMW:

If you've got money to burn and weight doesn't matter to you, the K1600 is the one to get. It's more sophisticated, runs smoother, has a nice stereo, and the extra clout from it's price tag. However, if reliability, ease of maintenance, lighter weight, purchase price and cost of ownership matter, the FJR is the better machine.

SIMPLE.

I mentioned it before that maybe it's just me but I think it's a **** color. Doesn't look red to me, looks more like the baby-crap-burnt-orange on a Chevy. I wouldn't consider buying such an ugly vehicle. If you gave me one I'd have it repainted. No way, no how I'd ride it. Why doncha just put some studs in the seat and tassles on the handle bars too prissy boys?

Note- no smiley faces. I ain't kiddin'. It looks like crap to me. I hate it.
