Griff and Bill, just double checking these dates eh! Back on August 30, 2013: Aug 14-17, 2014 was put out on this post, but I never saw a confirmation reply from you two Hosers. Can Miss Donna and Papa Chuy Viejo take these dates to the bank, eh? Since we will be flying in to Deer Lake NL, we have Air Canada reservations to secure eh! jes' sayin' and nuff said!

Don (and anyone else who is confuzzled...) :

CFR 2014 is "Rally on da Rock", the least organized FJR Rally in the history of FJR Rallies. No registration. No fees. No BS. Just show up, ride, have fun. Enjoy time with friends.

That's it.

Oh, and have a few pints. Can't forget that.

14-17 August, Deer Lake Holiday Inn Express, block of rooms being held.

Call hotel direct @ 1-709-635-3232, mention "Canadian FJR Rally" for a special rate.

As that TV ad says, it's so simple, even a caveman can do it. Or a Fenian pipefitter. JSNS ;)

Questions?

My plan is to catch the late ferry on the evening of August 14th, might do the Cabot Trail on the way down depanding who else is interested. This will put me in Port-Aux-Basques late Thursday night. Friday morning I will work my way to Deer Lake for the FJR festivities. After the rally (Sunday) I am heading north through Gros Mornes eventially up to St. Anthony for Monday. I will have a set of TKC-80s already mounted on rims waiting for me at a friends house. He will ship my street tires/rims home. From there I am heading home via the Trans Lab.

There are a few must sees in Gros Mornes for me. If I don't get to them during the rally then I'll take an extra day on the way north after the rally.

MMMM.... if I put a set of CK-80's on my extra rims and put them in my trailer......

FYI,

There are no tie downs on the Sydney ferry only old rope, bring your own as that can be a rough crossing.

Oh, D and I are starting to make plans for this

I have taken the Sydney ferry to Port aux Basques (and to Argentia) at least five times and there have always been plenty of ratchet straps (and deck cleats) available to tie down the bike. The ratchet strap connection to the bike is via a piece of rough rope with loops but I buffer it with microfiber cloths to prevent scratches. Never had any issues.

Is there interest in doing the Western Brook Boat tour? If so, what day are you planning? Just trying to work out some sort of agenda for myself.

The boat tour is around 100 km north of Deer Lake. If done on Saturday, one could get some riding in on the way back. If done on Sunday, I would likely continue north after the tour. Either way works for me, just trying to see what folks are planning.

Keep in mind, the tour completely depends on the weather. The last time we tried to do the tour (after hiking in with my Stich & Off-road boots) the tour was cancelled due to fog.

I just had a look at the 2014 ferry schedule......................... https://www.marine-atlantic.ca/schedule.asp
Looks like either a Thursday afternoon ride or a very early (3:00 am) Friday morning ride for this kid.

I reckon I'll be on the 430AM ferry on either the 12th or the 13th, since I want to get up to L'Anse aux Meadows before the rally (headed to St John's and then Dublin afterwards).

Any other early birds beside us?

We are leaving here Sat Aug 8th. (maybe even Fri the 7th). Plan on doing the Cabot Mon and/or Tues. Wanna be in Deer Lake by Thursday so I've got some play time/room.
