You know what sucks about this. The local dealer was going to call me tomorrow with a price on a FZ-07 that I looked at on Saturday. I might have to belay that and wait for the 2016 left overs now.

Dammik,

Dave

"Oh, and where are all my "The FJR is dead! Yamaha killed the FJR" bitching brothers?"

Well the shoe fits - I'll wear it. Very pleased to be wrong. Very pleased.

Hm, big generation debate. Really, if you make any change from one year to another.... it's a generational change. Any differences from one country to another should be noted with the .5 with whatever came out second. Of course you can call it a gen3.5 all you want but all I want to know is what year it came out. That will tell me all about the scoot that I need to know....of course....is it European or American....? Well...adjust your "0.5" to whatever came out afterwards. Me having a "gen1" 05 model means nothing to me other then it's an 05. I have a blue 05 with abs.....what do you have?

I'm guessing the MSRP will exceed $18k for the ES.
You might be right, since Yamaha has put more distance between the A and the ES. The current $1000 would be a steal for the electronic suspension, inverted forks, and adaptive lighting, but I wouldn't be surprised if the cost difference is a bit more.

Me likey.....Will Dale get his before me this time????? I doubt it...

Nice bike, this explains why I saw a 15 marked down to $12k at a local dealer.

As for the 6 speed, I came off one when I switched to the FJR and 5 speed trans was a selling point for me. I just didn't like working through 6 gears every time I stop and I NEVER have found a gap that this motor doesn't fill between the gears. The most interesting point for me other than the LED Adaptive lighting is the inverted forks on the ES model. Now that would be helpful and something I would welcome.

Will I cross the delta of over $10k to get off my 05? Probably not. It still too fun to ride... but then those inverted forks and LED lighting... guess we'll see.

Good write up here as well: https://www.motorcyclistonline.com/first-look-2016-yamaha-fjr1300-now-with-six-speeds-motorcyclist-magazine-new-sport-touring

I have a second release Gen 1 '05.

I enjoy working the gear box so the extra gear is probably a good thing for me, but more importantly is the expected smoother shifting and hopefully less fragile shifting forks and dogs.

Only the ES model gets the directional head lights.
Yamaha video says that the heated grips provide FOUR levels of warmth, as opposed to the current 3
  • Standard Heated GripsThe FJR1300A includes heated grips straight from factory, adjustable through the multi-function instrumentation, with four settings (three settings plus off) of available heat for cooler conditions and foul weather.

I suppose technically it's 4 settings, but seems a rather cheap use of symantics.

I like the LED lighting on the front, not so much on the rear. Eye of the beholder and all that. I'll be one of the '13 owners who's real curious if the headlamp assembly with cornering lights will end up being plug and play with the '13. Shape looks about right, but it'll probably depend on how much of the fancy bits are external to the assembly.

I'm also dying to know if the A&S clutch will bolt on. I don't really have any problems with the clutch I have now, but it could turn out to be interesting. I'm surprised nobody's commented on the chronic dry clutch issues from previous years. Do you think Yamaha might have updated the whole clutch assembly for better clutch wetting while they were adding in the A&S?

Maybe Yamaha can adopt Microsoft's naming conventions. It might be Gen III, SP3. (Service pack 2 would be the 2014 ES.) Hopefully its not more like Windows '98 2nd edition!

Taller first and second?? Don't get that. 6 speed.. whatever. I love not having to shift much. Lazy rider I guess, but you can be with this motor. I like the LEDs. Color is sweet both EU and USA. Slipper clutch?? If I need a slipper clutch coming into a corner on the big FJR.. I did something wrong. :) I guess its good to have in that just in case, but I hope the transmission is as reliable as the current one.

I just got my '08 the way I want it so.. I am not in the market really. But glad they finally put out the info. Suspense was killing us!!!! lol.

I like it...alot!

Now I just need to figure out how to wear out my new [used] just-purchased-in-May [dammit] 15A by next summer so the CFO will approve another bike in the garage.

Seriously, more incremental improvements to this terrific platform and I've always been partial to that "Blue". My vote is for GEN III.5!

Only from what I read but they talk about those being tied into a Lean Angle sensor. That made me think of a future with cornering ABS.

Yup ^^^^ lighting description from the website, probably not a plug-n-play install.

"The bold new face of the FJR1300ES uses bright, high-efficiency LED lighting, featuring Yamaha’s all-new cornering headlights. Above the quad-element LED headlight assembly, six LED units illuminate sequentially to shine through turns, controlled by Yamaha’s IMU technology."

I really like the color....my favorite even though I never had the '06 or '12 versions. I have had a 6-speed with a slipper clutch in the form of a C14 for the past 8 years and perfer the FJR's gear spacing. Yes, the 6 gear overdrive is quieter and a little smoother but gas mileage goes down unless I am riding downhill or enjoying a tailwind. I hope Yamaha didn't get carried away and make 6th gear too tall.

Again.....nice looking bike!

Notice that the 6th gear didn't raise the mpg's according home-Yamaha?

The real world will probably tell.
