El Toro Joe (or anyone) - can you point me to the general location of the alphabet roads in Wisconsin? What cities are they near? I'm not having much luck in that dept.
Mr. Pants, I is jes a lowly suthrener...but in mah former life I was a suburbanified Yankee. I vaguely recollect alphabet roads and believe all of Wisconsin has county alphabet roads. However, the ones you are interested in will be west and north of Dodgeville...and including the area bounded roughly by the interstate on the north, the Mississippi on the west, and Reedsburg on the east.

County P from Coon Valley east to Dilly is an ol standby.

Hwy 82 east from Desoto to Lafarge, then north on 131 to Ontario sets you up for 133 east past Wildcat Mtn SP.

171 west from Boaz to Mississippi works. 130 from Gov. Dodge SP to the river is fine. Some good Cty roads between Dodgeville and Boscobel.

Then again mah memory is getting a fuzzier and a fuzzier...
Sounds like you will miss it, but if you go in the fall, most of those alphabet roads will have been coated with fresh oil and pea gravel. That seems to be when they do the road work up there. At least they did when I took my wife for a ride a week or two after Labor Day.

They actually had 1/2 to 1 inch gravel down the main street of a pretty good size town on a Wisconsin highway. They were using a Bobcat with a brush on the front to move the gravel off so cars could drive thru. I had several cars throw pea gravel on me on the curves on the back roads and making good speed was out of the question. Ruined what was to be a fun day of riding.

Pants, just come to the Rendezvous at Red Lodge, last weekend in June, weather will be fantabulous, there is no better company, you can ride your own pace. There are no better roads in America.

Head for the Rockies and Yellowstone. I made the trip a few years back and still get a rush every time I review the pictures. Follow the Arkansas river where it leaves the mountains near Canon City, CO. I accidently found Independence Pass and camped about a mile from the top of it. Went thru Flaming Gorge area of Utah. Spent three days in Yellowstone. Camped every night of the trip but one.

Wherever you ride, take your time and enjoy the journey. Best wishes.

Hey pants, I'm planning on heading out to the Wyoming/Dakotas area next year since I went southwest last year. Gotta mark off some states and bucket list places. Drop me a line if you decide to go that way and want some company. You know I'll be mostly camping.

I hope to include Red Lodge to meet some forum members but we'll see if the dates work.
