Great feedback, thanks and please continue. It's fun to dream about the possibilities.

2. Run up the river road for a while, break off in Minnesota and head east to the alphabet Wisc. roads, then ride to the UP (and/or around the Great Lakes) in Michigan, the swing southeast and catch SEOR, then continue Southeast and ride a decent loop through West Virginia, then take the long way home. Can I do that in two weeks with three weekends?
That sounds pretty darn awesome!!! I bet that can be done. You could make some nice loops along the river on the way up. Meaning hit the western side in the morning and then return to camp that night. The next day hit the eastern side on your way north.

Wisconsin is good, Ohio is better, and West Virginia is even better. You might want to put a stop in the Bonne Terre area on the way up. That part of Missouri is not very far away from the River. Spending a day or two there would be fantastic as well.

I did a loop around Lake Superior in July. From Duluth north was beautiful, but also much cooler than we thought. I was wearing a mesh jacket as it was 70-80 degrees through Wisconsin, from Duluth to Thunder bay temps were only about 45-50 along the lakeshore.

Time to start thinking about 2016 tours. I'm looking at two trips - one in the Spring (April) and one in the Summer. Wifey and I are planning to fly to New England for the Fall foliage next year - no FJR on that trip and that means I likely won't be able to take a long leaf-peeping tour on the bike next year.
Possible ideas:

......

- Never been to West Virginia yet on the bike

- Yosemite, Yellowstone, Glacier (nuff said) Prolly need 3 weeks for that one during the summer?

Anyhoo - thoughts?
When you fly to New England pack your riding gear and rent a bike? When you fly to New England send me an email, if possible I'd like to buy ya a beverage of your choice! When we fly & ride we check our riding gear plus any bag(s) and carry on the helmets because this way you know they weren't abused. When we rent almost all the rental places will store stuff unneeded for the bike riding part of the trip, then pick up the baggage again when we turn in the bike. (Have some fun on the plane and wear the helmets for takeoff, rough weather and landings

WV -- yes, by all means! Plus, there are a lot of things to see and do in that section of the country.

West coast stuff: IMO, there is so much to see and do that even 3 weeks won't put a small dent in all the things to see. I would suggest that a west coast trip should be a fly & rent so you can get the most out of your trip. We have done that in CA; two trips and 6k miles later we still haven't seen all we want to see and, dang, there are things we want to go back and see/do again.

In any case, in WV and out west the only issue you will ever have is simply lack of time.

I've looked through the ride planning boards.

I've googled "FJR Forum Southeast Ohio Ramble"

I've found the 2014 SEOR website."

Strike 3

Can someone please point me to the 2016 SEOR board, site, or otherwise source of information?

Thanks

Pants, I do not think the 2016 edition has been announced yet. Since it is a ramble instead of an "official" fjr event, it is usually loosely organized closer to the date. The date is usually the first weekend of May.

Found the '16 SEOR thread and voted. Looks like the 2nd weekend in May is where there is going to be.

Really considering my "WV, SEOR, Wisc, UP, and River Road" loop for the adventure. Now leaning toward a counterclockwise loop to give a better chance for some warming in the Wisc./UP area.

That sounds like a good plan! We will watch for you in Marietta, OH!

Keep me apprised. Depending on your route, I may try to meet up. Won't make the ramble, but a day trip isn't out of the question.

El Toro Joe (or anyone) - can you point me to the general location of the alphabet roads in Wisconsin? What cities are they near? I'm not having much luck in that dept.

Find LaCrosse, WI then look to the east

I'm gonna say that Utah/Colorado is a fantastic area to spend a few weeks. Each time I've been through its been pretty quick, and I think you could see a lot more fantastic places and exhilarating riding if you could take a little more time. Lots of beautiful national parks in Utah, gorgeous mountain passes in Colorado, and if you wanted you could dip through New Mexico to check in on HotRodZilla. Pretty much everything you could want in a August/September vacation.

Between the Mississippi River and Lake Michigan in Wisconsin...you gotta zoom way in on Google Maps

Mr. Pants, I is jes a lowly suthrener...but in mah former life I was a suburbanified Yankee. I vaguely recollect alphabet roads and believe all of Wisconsin has county alphabet roads. However, the ones you are interested in will be west and north of Dodgeville...and including the area bounded roughly by the interstate on the north, the Mississippi on the west, and Reedsburg on the east.

County P from Coon Valley east to Dilly is an ol standby.

Hwy 82 east from Desoto to Lafarge, then north on 131 to Ontario sets you up for 133 east past Wildcat Mtn SP.

171 west from Boaz to Mississippi works. 130 from Gov. Dodge SP to the river is fine. Some good Cty roads between Dodgeville and Boscobel.

Then again mah memory is getting a fuzzier and a fuzzier...

Thanks all for the input.

Russ - I just did 14 days and 4000 miles in Utah and Colorado. Right up the point where I crashed, it was absolutely incredible. I will be back there one day.
