dCarver's rides

Hppants on fjrforum.com started a thread of 2016 rides and memories. So I grabbed a glass o' Whiskey and went to task.

Culling through the pix, my aha moment. It's not the scenery. It's not the bike. It's not me.

It's the humans.

That's a revelation. I've been known for being the lone wolf, the loner. And now I pine for humans?

I blame the whiskey. What the ****. It is what is.

Meet Wayne and Jean. Jean took care of my Pops and became family. Wayne drove Dad every freaking day to see his wife in the old folks home. I haven't contacted W&J since I saw them last summer. I don't know if Wayne is still with us.
Note to self. Don't let time pass for those with limited time.

Ray Slocomb got the 1979 KZ1300 restored and running. She has nagging issues like running hot but she's alive!

Let's talk about the peeps. I really like this ooompha of a man. He looks seriously bad ass, and he can be, but inside he's a TeddyBear. My bud, Ray.

Local hood ride. On this day, was in a dark mood. After the ride, all good. Like always.

Morro Bay campground, ran into this, ahh, unique fellow. Great guy. Wish I remembered his name. Note to self. Get phone numbers. Write it down. Don't let moments pass.

HaHa!

In the hood. Parkfield Cafe. RenoJohn, do you remember?

At Dean Tanji's December ride 'Because we Can'.. Guess who I found? My HERO, Sir TurboDave! That smile on my face is larger than ever. This guy is the real deal. Love you Turbo!

In Oregon, on the road side. Art. Local. Love it.

Diverging tracks.. Realization I like trains.

My bud Ray. He puts up with my shit.

Most on the forum these days don't know of Andrew or Tim. But some of us remember. An rejoice that we knew them. Andrew liked old barns.

In 2017, I need to get my Pops in the ground with Mom. Right now, Pops is in a box in the room as I type this. It has been a nightmare to get Kali permits to bury Dad with Mom.

Ever been wet, cold, and the bike not running good? Here KrZy8's cruise control has decided to automagically set at 85+ and never, never, never ever release.

Back in the hood. Rinaconda.

Tim's tree. TwoWheelNut for noobies.

Peeps. This guy.. Has more life and fun than most anyone I've ever known. Once again, everyting distills to peeps in your life. How many good ones do you have?

My deceased brothers son, with certain, ah, challenges, found the right woman and wonderful person. I was honored to attend their committment ceremony. Since Jon and Ramona found each other, life is magical.

Because old building have soul, I stop. And peek in. And talk to the owners. And learn. I love to learn. Teach me.

Yeah, teach me how flip the bird correctly! My Uncle Dutch always gave the 1 fingered salute. Now that my hands are crippled up, I too give a true Uncle Dutch salute!

The Kz1300 puking her guts out. But she did get me home. Gotta figure out why she runs so hot.

Isn't it horrible when someone who has been so wonderful to your family, in this case my Dad.. and I can't recall her name. She works at the old folks home where Dad stayed.. Rebecca?

Two of the coolest humans I know.

Naomi!

Hey Pant's, thanks for the thread. Great idea mi amigo. Hope to ride with you some day. Let's make it happen before time passes for us too.

Spent the first few hours of a ride I'd been looking forward to for months in fog and gloom. Then a steep climb and round a corner and BAM blue sky. So I whip out the camera and find that the battery is still at home. Luckily WheatonFJR follows my detailed instructions closely

and takes this, and emails me my new screensaver:

Found a few more pics in the archives for y'all.

February last year, the PNW mid-Cascades was short on snow and rain-wise we also had a drier than normal winter. My shack is in the foothills north-east of Seattle and as such, [normally] get my share of rain and snow events. With that, there's always a lot of "junk" on the roads ranging form tree debris to sand and gravel, not much fun with so many twists and elevation changes. Less rain = cleaner roads so I got out!

View east towards the Cacasdes, looking to Highway 2 and Stevens Pass.

April awarded us with another clear day late winter ride to the Olympic Peninsula.

August, Fontanaman twisted my arm for an early morning ride to Neah Bay via the Edmonds-Kingston Ferry.

November, day-trip loop north to the border with Panman, Pops and Curley Joe. IIRC this ride was heated gear all day long with temps not getting too much above 40.

Hey all! It's been awhile since I've been here but here are 2 of the high's and lows of 2016.

20160604_100833%5B1%5D-L.jpg

Fist the low, Jun 3 2016. A Buick tried to get friendly with Blue.

And I just got it broke in.

I also had the engine in my 2011 Impala chew up 2 con-rod bearings,

The engine was replaced, with the money I got for Blue.

5 weeks later the trans went and so did the Impala.

And now for something completely different. The high.

Oct 25, 2016. Number 5 arrived.

I believe this has some catching up to do.

I also had these put on. They do sound nice.

I also got a new Sonic with 6 miles on it.

I hope 2017 is kinder and less expensive.

Holy shit, Sam. Your photos are magnificent. Nice work, man.

I only have one good picture to retrospectively describe my 2016 riding year. I left NERDS early this year for this:

Clipboard01.jpg

Yes... some things are more important than riding with your friends. But next year, no weddings!
I wish I had noticed this post earlier - but since I don't know your family I'm not sure how to react to this photo. You're either walking your daughter down the aisle, or celebrating your own wedding to a beautiful woman who appears to be young enough to be your daughter!

I'm either happy for you, or extremely jealous, depending on the facts of the situation.....

Yes, that is our daughter, now another man's wife. As you can clearly see in the photo, I am an ugly old cuss, and I'm not nearly rich enough to attract a woman as young and attractive as she is. The point of my post was that we did not do a whole lot of riding last year with that going on.

I also lied about the "no weddings next year" as turns out, since my son is getting hitched this fall. He is the youngest and the last of our three to do that. But, luckily for us, he did not schedule it for the week of NERDS (like his sister unknowingly did) so their Mom and I will be able to stay and ride the entire time next week.

Good memory: Easy to remember when I got the new upgrade this year, on April Fools' Day, in a snow "event". Better yet is to be able to take part in both NERDS and EOM and see some familiar faces from 8 - 9 years ago!
