So much for taking the twisty way home... My county decided, for the first time since I've lived here for 30 years, to place sand in the corners of shadowy corners that *might* be icy at 0200.

Way past dark, heading home, 65F, ClearWaters blazing, blind right hand corner, nice line selection, and WOOPS! 1 foot sideways for 3 feet forward. Front and back, easy and stable as can be. The FJR is truly a stable platform with good design parameters for rake, trail, suspension, and tires. Neutral.

Rider input needed...Light on the throttle, weight the outside peg, apply a little counter balance with the upper body....

Happy for the years of dirt biking.. it didn't really scare me until the distance between the uphill side of dirt was, at max, 18 inches away. KrZy8 squared up, gained traction and away we went. No big deal. <right!>

But that's it for this route until things warrm up and I'm in daylight.

No need to play the game too often..

Coolio!

Well Done!

Still, it's enough to put an extra crease in the seat cover :)

Yep, me too. I think it's a real hoot and often shout out loud in my helmet when I get just the rear to break loose (no more than an inch or two). Any more than that and I'm changing underware.

exactly like you I lost both wheels in sand in a right corner-steered into the skid, right foot down flat tracker style, and when I cleared the sand the bike hooked up perfectly...Would have gone down without the foot tho. And when my sliding boot hit clean pavement I got a nice twisty ankle sprain..

Thank god for a youth spent playing in the dirt. I slid my 04 around a gravel switchback in VA in 2008. Got my attention for sure, but I'm used to it. Still sliding a 650lb bike WILL get you extremely focused.

Riding in the dirt should be required for any serious motorcyclist.

.. and I totally agree with you. Just wish I'd had the chance when I was younger.
A photograph of Roger, if he would have just bought that Greeves! jes' sayin' and nuff said, Dear Old Blighty!

Does your county decision makers not understand the temperature at which ice may form?

Glad you made it through safely and your prior riding experience kicked in and saved you from doing the wrong thing!

Damn Carver!

I get all excited when a tar snake sends me a few inches to the left!

Glad all is well
