Hadn't thought of this one before...

12) Don’t forget that pack-and-ship places are just about everywhere these days. They’re perfect when you spot that antique umbrella stand you’re dying to buy hundreds of miles from home.

All good ideas and worth thinking about. I probably follow about half of them.

Regarding this one:

25) On a long tour, plan for at least one day every week of doing nothing. Time is the ultimate luxury, and can mean the difference between a vacation and an endurance run.

I can't imagine myself sitting out a full day.

Here's a new one for me:

"8) Going on a long, complex trip? Keep yourself organized with the envelope system. Before you leave, prepare one envelope for each day on the road. Mark the dates and locations on the outside, then stuff things like hotel reservation info and lists of things to see inside. Instead of juggling your entire stack of literature to find the piece you need, you can just open up that day’s envelope."

Thanks for the sites, I'm going out west this summer and can really use this information.

the biggest tip...

WHEN IT'S HOT... DRINK LOTS OF WATER!

Out in the desert, I found myself literally puring a half gallon of Gatoraide down my throat when I stopped for gas... therefore, I ordered Skyway's hydration system!

A camelbak is useless if you have luggage, a passenger or a backrest to lean on....

At least I did better that the Wing riders I saw... I had clothes on! <G>

Tank tops and shorts in the desert with over 100F is not the brightest idea.....

The other thing I did which is different than what they said since I was only riding from point A to point B.... I average 50mph including gas stops and eating, etc.

50 mph times the # of hours I was willing to ride every day... and kinda stuck to that.... I didnt' get as tired as night until the temps hit over 100F, then just did shorter days. When it got cold and windy and rainy, I figured 40MPH average. doesn't sound like much, but it worked.

Yep, I got Skyway's Hydration System as well. Looking forward to using it when it get hot here in the south.

Great lists guys, thanks. I'll add one . . .

If you can't remember the last ten minutes . . . like it and you weren't even there . . . and it happens twice in a short period of time. Stop riding.

DAMN!

might as well put a hitch on my rollaway !!

Nah that ain't me Glenn, that came from the LDR link WC posted up

5) On high-mileage days, you’ll feel a lot better if you carry eyedrops and use them every time you stop for gas.

How much does all that s..t weigh... and where do you find the room for it? After all, you got to have your priorities, some single malt, a few clothes, a book, maybe a good vodka or gin for martinis, rain gear, cigars, a 6 pack of good micro brew and maybe some good tequila or a nice pinot noir. I really know a guy who travels this way. Great story teller.

34. Always order your double cheeseburger without onions. That way you get one prepared "fresh".

35. Aleve is your friend.

36. ZipLock bags and Windex wipes. Need I say more.

I just signed up for AMA Tow. Been looking for such a service for months. Had no idea AMA had anything worthwhile.

37. Bottle of Captian Morgan, you can always get Coke. (even in dry counties)

A list worth repeating!

:construction:

Always a few things that you might have forgot. Not a bad idea to run through the list before doing a long ride just to make sure you remember something you might have forgot or need to know.
