I am thinking of either doing a 4 corner usa ride a going form FL to alaska and back. I have 3 weeks and don't plan to necessarily iron butt but longer days are ok. I want to leave in the next week or two. Any suggestions ie weather, routes, do's don'ts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

https://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php...ighlight=Alaska Greetings rockmurf! Here is very nice ride report from Voni and Paul Glaves. Glaves' are friends with Warchild, Ignacio and many of the Iron Butt Rally Riders here!

Having worked in Alaska for six seasons as a pipefitter and planning on your same trek when I retire from working in 2010:

Definitely make arrangements for fresh tires when you arrive in Anchorage, unless you're doing a SkooterG; Cords & Belts!!

When I lived and worked in Alaska I always got my parts at: The Motorcycle Shop, 400 W. Potter Dr., Anchorage, AK 99518

You can call or post them to have skins waiting for you: (907) 561-1165, fax (907) 562-1433 [email protected]

Their website is https://www.themotorcycleshop.com/ and you can set up a advance appointment to get your tires mounted.

In 2010 I am going to incorporate my Four Corners USA Ride with visiting my old friends in Palmer, Fairbanks and Glenallen.

Check out AGIRL's website for description of both trips. Very good ride reports.

Thanks guys for the awesome tips.
Having done both trips I would do Florida to Alaska if given the choice. No reason to do that (Start in Key West) unless you are going to Prudhue to complete a UCC. If not and you are truly not interested in 1,000 mile days I would just head for BC and Alaska.

Use Voni and Pauls trip as a base as they saw many of the highlights and went to many (IMO) of the best places like Chicken, Dawson etc. I love going to Alaska and while there is the challenge of less than perfect roads (gravel) and large construction zones on the Alcan it is truly beautiful when the sun comes out. If you do this do not forget the Kootenys and Jasper (Icefield Pkwy). Just spectacular stuff.

I did the four corners several years ago and it was "just a ride" compared with a trip to Alaska which is more of an adventure.
