Hi Guys

I have a 2001 uk fjr and my front disc bolts need replacing due to the effects of the weather.

I have the new M6 bolts (also fit the R1/R6 bikes) and need a tap to clean out the old threads of muck and locktite.

The thing is the threads are 1.25 mm and I can't find a suitable tap in the uk.

My question is : does the tap I am looking for (6mm x 1.25mm) exist in the US or anywhere else?

If not, suggestions please for cleaning the threads.

many thanks

Paul

Are you sure it's not 8mm by 1.25? That's very common.

The 6mm pitch is usually 1. but there is a .75 too.

Not familiar with a 6 -1.25

As to cleaning out the threads without a tap, take one of your old bolts and grind a slot up the side of it. Slowly work it in and out to scrape the threads clean.

As a standard M6 has a 1.0 thread pitch, you could order a special, but it would be quite expensive. Are you sure its a M6 x 1.25?

A 1.25 pitch is usually on a M8, M10 or even a M12 as a standard.

Have you tried running (gently) a M6 x 1.0 in the hole?

Yes, there's a 6x1.25 thread available... see my Craftsman tap&die set story where one got mismarked as a 6x1.00 and put in my tap set. The local Sears has 6x1.00 and 6x1.25 tap & drillbit sets.

I know this is an old topic, but I found it while doing a Google search. I actually do need a 6mmx1.25 tap. My local Sears does not have it. Any idea where I can find this? Thanks.
