Great ride report Ms. Tyler. Anybody interested in riding on Windy Ridge should do it soon as the trees are making a comeback and it is starting to ruin what use to be excellent sight line in the turns. It changes every year.....

If I could, I'd be back there in a heartbeat... have a couple of nice pics of you too... :D

Some spectacular pictures in there! And ya gotta love Mt Saint Helens. It's amazing how much destruction is still readily apparent. And it's really cool seeing how Mother Nature is slowly and steadily reclaiming the land.
Thanks! And yeah, Mother Nature's ability to overcome devastation is pretty encouraging... B)

Nice pics and me in the same sentence - heaven forbid.

What do you do for a living?....besides just ride all over the west coast seemingly anytime you want?
I really need to start playing the lottery.
Office manager for a litigation consulting firm... full time... 6 weeks of paid time off... doesn't count weekends... there's a lot to do and see around here!

Man that's great! I only get 3 paid weeks off a year. 6 weeks would be awesome. Looks like an amazing trip. Great photography to capture everything. You lead a very blessed life, I hope you realize that.

Yea, I'll go up from 2 to 3 weeks come March. Too bad I plan on making a change between now and then. 6 weeks would be amazing!

The original schedule had us going to Rainier on Wednesday but due to the fact that I was way overdue for the 600-mile check in on the new machine, and Sue needed new tires (no trip is complete without changing a tire with the Wades), Scott had lost something on one his tires, and Patrick needed that final drive checked out, it was decided to spend the day supporting the local moto economy and get things all squared away.

I sat at Starbucks perusing the web while Sybil got all spiffed up... they even washed her for me! When I went to pick her up, there was a lurker, um, I mean, gent from the FJRforum, DaveK, who had been monitoring my whereabouts and decided to swing by the dealer and say hi. Lucky for me/us, he guided me to the BMW dealer where everyone else was and then into downtown Tacoma for some lunch (our waitress was Snow White in another life... that voice!!) and to visit the Museum of Glass and the Chihuly Bridge of Glass.

I wished we had my friend, Dorothy, with us for this visit as I'm sure she would have been a huge source of information on they processes and materials used to create some of the fantastic art...

The Chihuly Bridge of Glass is a 500-foot pedestrian overpass that crosses the busy freeway below. You can read more about it here if interested:

The next day... Mt. Rainier... FINALLY!!

The day started out overcast but it would turn out to be a brilliant day... one of the very best of the year for sightseeing at Mt. Rainier... we gathered at the top of Thunderdriveway and were joined by Dave/Niehart, Kevin/Panman, DaveK, and Jim/Fontanaman...

The first stop of the day was at Crystal Mountain where we took the gondola to the top of the mountain and had a stellar view of the surrounding grandeur... crystal clear blue skies, no haze, and mid-70s... yup it was a perfect day...

Yours truly... there are some moments that can overwhelm a person... given I almost died about four years ago, to stand in witness to such beauty definitely gives one pause on the blessings that surround us in our world... I was feeling it most definitely at this moment... grateful for being alive, for being where I was, seeing it in person, and most of all for the blessings of the friends in my life to share it all with...

Roadwork was a common theme on many of the roads in the park... gotta fix them roads while the weather is good...
IMG_1652-XL.jpg

The next destination was up to Sunrise, the highest point that can be reached by vehicle at 6,400 feet... there are stunning views almost everywhere you look...

Dave/Niehart was my shadow for most of the day... one of the advantages to hanging out in the back with the photographer is you get a cool shot of you and your bike!

Wasn't this something in a Dr. Suess story (fyi, it's a pasqueflower aka seedhead aka anemone accidentalis)??
DSC_8136-XL.jpg

We had a nice lunch and then headed back down the road for the next vantage point... see, Jim... told ya I had a good shot of you!
DSC_8148-XL.jpg

The road was lined with wildflowers on both sides... it was a cacophony of color...

M&M - Mountain and Machine...
DSC_8168-XL.jpg

The roads weren't too shabby either and there were points where it was a challenge to make sure you didn't focus on the scenery but rather the curvatures!

As a thank you, we took Bryan and the whole fam damily (their two lovely daughters even joined us!) out to dinner at their favorite restaurant...

Reluctantly, we started pre-packing for the next day's departure... but knew that more adventures lay ahead... to come soon - the Cascades and into Oregon!! B)

I am thrilled you choose a photo of me riding. I look much better in full gear. Great photos and ride report.
