OM - You have the best ride reports bar none!!!
Thanks for sharing.

BTW - Nice inflatable tent attachment you had. Does it still work. :dribble:
My guess is that he popped it, since he was complaining about uncomfortable sleeping. Also, who'da thot someone's pillion would forget to wear their kevlar underpanties?

Seriously though Michael...this is just another one of your fantastic ride reports that we all look forward to viewing.

Good job once again! :clapping:

Let's see here.

feeger and OM were riding their motorcycles up the Grand Staircase in southern Utah.

This here is what some of it looked like on the way to Torrey.

We rolled into Torrey around mid-afternoon, and Al kindly bought me lunch before we parted ways.

He was headed farther north, and I was going to turn around and head back the way we'd just come,

since my stuff was still at the campsite back there.

But this time, since I'd be alone, I planned to stop and try capture in pixels more of the stuff we'd

passed on the way up. A tough task, but....

We bid each other adios, and I headed south.

Here's how things looked with the light softening in the afternoon.

Grabbed a bite to eat as I approached the park , downed a couple of more ales beside my tent,

and crawled into my mummy bag for another looooong night under the stars.

Speaking of stars -I had to get up a few times during the course of the night to use the men's room,

and in the wee hours, after the moon had slipped below the horizon, I stopped and gazed up

at the incredible sky. This place was far, far away from any sizable towns, and the sky was crystal clear,

so I was treated to one of the most amazing night skies I'd ever witnessed.

I found myself almost in tears staring up at it and considering what the ancients

thought of it back when they knew little of the universe.

...Then I peed on a rock, and went back to my tent. :D

When morning came, I packed it all up, had a last look around, and rolled off on my blue Yamaha.

Leaving Kodachrome. :(

IMG_5720.jpg

Beside the road back to Cannonville.

IMG_5728.jpg

In front of the little store where I ate my stale pastry breakfast. (Sorry Wendell, no food pics

worth sharing this time.)

IMG_5609.jpg

I punched Las Vegas into my GPS, and then worked at making the gal say "recalculating" all day.

Went back over 14, for the 3rd time this trip. Just as pretty, again.

IMG_5611.jpg

Hotties!

IMG_5617.jpg

IMG_5736.jpg

A side road. (It had gotten much cooler, and the air was particularly fresh up here. You know how

it is when you're just feeling good? Peaceful inside.)

IMG_5742-1.jpg

IMG_5619.jpg

Back in Cedar City now, it was time to point myself down I-15, planning to stay the night in Las Vegas

before heading home. And I actually enjoyed riding the interstate back to Nevada. Gives you time

to comtemplate.

IMG_5650.jpg

I thought about all the fine folks I'd met and friends I'd had the chance to see again in Page.

I'll not name names, because I'd leave someone out. Thanks all.

Hit some serious wind as I approached LV. Dust and debris and riding sideways. Cool.

Found a Best Western just off the strip, cleaned up, and went in search of a buffet.

Strolled around a bit...

IMG_5671.jpg

...struck up a conversation with some gals on the street...

IMG_5674.jpg

...and popped in here, 'cause I like....owls.

IMG_5681.jpg

Wandered back to my room early, planning to get a good start the next day, and a bit bummed

that it was time to head home.

Slept like a friggin' corpse. Geez, I miss that tent. ;)

One more installment and it'll be a wrap. Promise.

This may be the best ride report you've written Michael. The video stuff was lame  , but the humor and characters met on the road make up for it in spades! You have a good eye with a camera. You should show some of this to a publisher and some sponsors and get a month or two ride of your own... bet some of it would be covered. Good stuff.

Errr. just one thought. Keep your helmet on OK? My dog was scared and barked when she saw you without it. ;)

After my little hike, I skipped back to camp, prepared to do some more riding.I noticed these little berries were all over the ground throughout the park. I figure

a fellow could survive out here for days, if he could gather enough of them for a meal.

IMG_5643.jpg
Always knew you weren't right, OM. But after lord-knows-how-many of your ride reports that I've read and enjoyed, I finally know why. ANYONE who eats deer **** has a mighty peculiar palate. I'm guessing that you won't be welcomed into the Los Robustos MC now that your secret is out.

I suppose that you'll next be telling us that's why you don't collide with* forest rats (as opposed to cliff diving, against which no similar ritual protects)?

* Edit note: replaced the word "hit" with "collide with", when it occurred to me that in the current vernacular, saying you don't "hit" deer might not be accurate. You did post a pic of Bust (and some sheep "hotties"), and I suspect his tutelage re: sheep might apply to deer as well (if'n you can catch one).

...Now about that crack.
Get a grip Dave. You're NOT in prison anymore.

...a few familiar faces, ugly, but familiar...
Yeah, John, you and I are the only good-lookin' ones.

...snow made it's initial depute last night.
Well Gramps, at least you've got number 4 and the Vikes to keep you warm.

...What's Niehart getting ready to do?
IMG_5436.jpg
Actually, he's just finished. Don't shake his hand Big D.

...I'd only just gotten dressed..
By yourself? :D

Get out west here, weenie!

So it was Wednesday morning, and time to head home.

I considered riding over through Death Valley and then up 395,

but instead opted to go north through Nevada on the way back to good old Northern CA.

I'd not been through much of southern

NV before (except right around LV), and even though I figured a lot of it

would be barren and ****** , for some reason that appealed to me

on this morning.

I actually imagined myself being on a ManStrom, wearing a grimy, gray 'Stich, and hauling ***

across the state, taking jacked-up, gravel roads, from whorehouse to bar, making friends with

derelicts and dirty hippies. And riling up all those sit-at-home, wannabe

adventurers, with profanity-filled, confrontational posts sent from my Blackberry.

Yeah! That'd be the ticket man! :D

But instead, I eased out onto 95 north, aboard my pretty blue, dignified, sport-touring motorcycle,

bound for Tonopah, the Venice of the Silver State.

Not far along, there was this.

IMG_5690.jpg

And it was COLD!

I mean, way cold.

Like, ...the mid-forties!

I must have been crazy coming this way this time of the year.

And it never got above the low fifties 'til I was almost to Lee Vining, for cryingoutloud.

How do these people live out in this mother?

But, I pressed on, whimpering quietly inside my helmet.

Just out of Beatty, I stopped to have a look at this.

I guess this guy is like a reverse dark-sider.

IMG_5701.jpg

I asked him what was up with his bike?

IMG_5750.jpg

He said, "It all started when my CCT failed."

:D

A little town called Goldfield.

A bit bleak, huh?

IMG_5705.jpg

Tonopah, I think. The cold had by now started to cloud my awareness. (Don't say it Bust.)

IMG_5711.jpg

Turned here. Smelled like fried bologna for some reason. Really.

IMG_5715.jpg

Seriously, so much of this state really is beautiful in its own way. I mean, the parts without people.

IMG_5717.jpg

Highway 6 takes you west over Montgomery Pass (7,100'), and just north of a couple of 13,000'

peaks in the White Mountains. Gorgeous country.

Back in California, I turned west again onto 120.

IMG_5754.jpg

This is actually a really fun bit of 120.

IMG_5742.jpg

If one wished to, one could probably get airborne on some parts of this road. ;)

IMG_5733.jpg

...if he wanted to.

IMG_5757.jpg

Gotta get one of these signs for my FJR.

IMG_5738.jpg

North then on 395. Stopped by Mono Lake to sit for a bit.

Damn, I enjoyed this ride.

IMG_5777.jpg

Headed up over Monitor Pass, and on up 89. Very familiar roads and landscape.

Pondered that this breathtaking country was on my doorstep. Indeed fortunate.

I never take it for granted.

IMG_5783.jpg

And finally, as I rode down into the valley, under that glorious western sky, I got a final shot of this grass fire

just off the highway. Looks a bit surreal, huh?

IMG_5829.jpg

Again, thanks so much for taking the time to wade through this, and to offer your kind comments and critiques.

Stay strong Tyler. See you soon.

Great ride Michael. You certainly know how to munch miles. No wonder you know half the cops in two states. :p

Please work on cutting out all the mangina whining though, will ya? Man up and get some heated gear like a real old fart... sheesh. ;)

I enjoyed the whole novela immensely.

Always awesome Michael! Great job. Maybe if I could get out of my zip code, I too could take real cool pix. :(

Bust - This is what you'd call, A target rich environment! Knowing you though, drinkin' and all, you'd pick the ugliest sheep in the heard....

AWE............... you miss me .............

I had a fast breakfast at one of the places near the entrance to Bryce. Unremarkable, but over quickly,

(just like FJRONAMISSION's women describe him), and I turned back northeast to begin my ride up

Highway 12.

OM........ one of the best RR ever!!

I can only hope that someday I can ride such a ride........

B.......

Mike

Thanks for the ride report, I look forward to them every time you disappear for a few days. Seeing pictures of all that beautiful countryside brings back good memories of when I went through there way too many years ago (back in the '70s) with my mother and sister. Mom was driving, I was in the back seat asking "Are we there yet?". Makes me want to plan a trip next spring in that direction.

I can relate to being at a campsite at night, getting up in the wee hours in the morning and looking up at the stars. Kinda puts thing is perspective.

Yeah, I did some rock baptizing too.
:blushsmiley:
